Armstrong Flooring, Inc. (AFI) has a job opportunity for an Operations Manager at our Stillwater, OK facility. This individual will provide Servant Leadership, growth and development to the Operations department and personnel. Working under the general direction of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for the effective management and coordination of all aspects of production and production support services for its assigned operation. This position also provides key leadership responsibilities in defining the future of our work environment by helping to define the future vision of the plant, educating the work force with regard to that vision, developing systems to achieve that vision, and motivating others to improve their capabilities to accomplish our vision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining systems for continuous improvement in all processes through the application of standard work methodology.

  • Responsibility for the effective performance of production and quality assurance for all Plant Operations

  • Establishes and communicates safety, quality, production, cost and personnel performance expectations for supervisors and hourly associates that are communicated and uniformly enforced.

  • Holds supervisors accountable for the consistent and uniform enforcement of performance expectations by production crews. Coaches and counsels supervisors and employees as necessary to ensure goals are attained.

  • Maintains quality performance of Residential Sheet and Luxury Vinyl Tile organization through use of systems management and Lean principles.

  • Responsibility for providing the leadership to drive the plant safety process

  • Modeling personal and organizational leadership to deliver an effective safety process.

  • Fostering an environment that understands and utilizes the tools and techniques of continuous learning and process improvement.

  • Develops and builds relationships with key customers and suppliers.(internal and external)

  • Provides for and promotes participative management and employee involvement through frequent employee meetings for communication and problem-solving, training, recognition, information sharing and interpretation, and delegation of authority and responsibility.

  • Promotes excellence in housekeeping through the effective deployment and use of 5S principals; establishes Lean events to reduce effort and cost to maintain housekeeping.

  • Provides for and promotes regular communication between maintenance and production. Facilitates the on-going integration of maintenance and production activities.

  • Maintains accountability for cost, quality and schedule performance of the assigned manufacturing operation. Organizational Relationships:

  • Receives guidance and direction from the Plant Manager

  • Works closely with the Plant Leadership Team, especially other business unit managers, communicating business unit performance, improvement activity, and issues. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead all operations personnel and manage all assets and systems in the scope of operations. Direct Report includes but not limited to:

  • All Operational Line Supervisors

  • DC and Warehouse Supervisors

  • Materials and Production Planner Travel:

  • Minimal travel expected, approximately 10%

  • Occasional travel for conferences, vendor meetings or similar activities may be required Required Qualifications:

  • Preferably a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field or Business Administration.

  • Minimum 7 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is required.

  • Prior experience in a continuous process environment such as floor tile, steel, aluminum, or paper rolling would be beneficial

  • Must possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Must be able to maintain positive employee relations and engage employees.

  • Prefer prior experience leading through organizational change.

About the Location (Stillwater, OK)

Our Stillwater Plant employs approximately 150 people and operates 24 hours a day, up to 7 days a week. Production teams work a 12 hour rotating shift. The plant manufactures and ships vinyl sheet flooring products.
