Summary:

  • ThePharmacy

Technicianshall perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures.

Duties and

Responsibilities:

  • Perform

pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient

prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases.

  • Perform

information consultation duties including supporting new and refill

prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physician’s requests,

monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions.

  • Perform

quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection,

reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and

documentation.

  • Assist

with Government supply and inventory functions.

  • Other

duties as assigned

Minimum

Qualifications:

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Have

a minimum of 12 consecutive months experience within the preceding 24 months

working as a pharmacy technician.

  • Provide

two letters of recommendation written within the last two years attesting to

the HCW’s clinical skills. One letter

must be from a practicing pharmacist or pharmacy supervisor who has personally

observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW’s clinical skills

in the care of patients. The other

letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who

has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical

environment. Reference letters shall

attest to the HCW’s communication skills and ability to relate to patients as

well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and

must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and

signature of the individual providing reference.

  • Possess

and maintain a current certification and registration by the Pharmacy

Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

  • Be

a graduate from a Pharmacy Technician program accredited by the American

Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP).

  • Have

successfully completed a formal pharmacy technician training program (i.e., a

technical, hospital, or retail-based program) OR have successfully completed a

formal medical services training program of the United States Military.

  • Possess

and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Knowledge, Skills

and Abilities:

  • Be

able clearly and effectively communicate with all patients and other healthcare

providers.

  • Possess

knowledge of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs,

anticipated results, usual dosages, and their location in the crash cart.

  • Utilize

pharmacy computer and robotic systems in accordance with MTF protocols.

  • While performing the duties of this

Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee

balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift

and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job

include close vision.

Work Environment:(The

  • The employee will normally work in

a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to

electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of

operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne

particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
