CBRE Project Manager - Commercial Construction in Sunnyvale, California


The purpose of this position is to lead individual, multi-disciplined real estate project solutions for clients, with direct accountability for project delivery. Characteristics of responsible projects:Complexity: MediumRisk: MediumDuration: LongtermValue: Typically < $30 Million USD Seeking a key individual to join the team responsible for developing a huge decommissioned military facility into a cutting-edge research and development campus in Mountain View, CA. This exciting project features opportunities to create revolutionary facility re-use strategies and work with new applications of construction technology on a massive scale. This position will require the management of three or more projects. The projects include road reconstruction, bikeway facility improvements, aviation fueling facility, vehicle electric charging stations, and major demolition.

The Project Manager for this position will be responsible for managing three or more projects. The first will involve management from design through construction for full depth roadway reconstruction of the main loop road around the site. The desired candidate for this project will have a proven track record for working with consultants and contractors to come up with cost savings strategies.

The second project will require the candidate to manage a bikeway facility upgrade project from schematic design through construction. The desired candidate will have some experience with bicycle facilities and be committed to working with the jurisdiction to understand their concerns and implement changes to design concepts as-needed to get the necessary approvals.

The third and fourth projects are for an fueling facility and electric vehicle charging stations. The fueling facility will be for both aviation fuel transfer trucks and diesel buses. The desired candidate for these projects will have experience with MEP systems and a proven track record of controlling costs throughout the design phase. These projects will be managed from schematic design through construction.

The fifth project is for the demolition of existing facilities onsite. The desired candidate would work with a consultant team and the contractor to obtain the necessary permits for demolition and manage the demolition effort. Experience managing projects with lead and asbestos is preferred.

The Project Manager will supervise multiple consultants and contractors performing investigation, design development, coordination with multiple on-site agencies and organizations, permitting, construction and commissioning.

The candidate will be joining a fun, hard-working team of 10 consisting of project managers, a project controls manager, an environmental planner, a project coordinator, and a dedicated construction field representative. The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • 3+ years of steadily increasing professional experience in construction project management.

  • A great team player who brings out the best in teammates and keeps diverse stakeholders working together toward project objectives.

  • Expertise in planning, organizing and executing design and construction of infrastructure and facilities with a project value over $5 million.

  • Experience working on military facilities preferred.

  • Background in Engineering or Construction Management required.

  • Construction management or project management licensure highly desirable.

  • Proven track record as a project manager with the ability to provide a mix of references from past supervisors and clients

  • Must have proven experience dealing with both site infrastructure and building construction projects.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills in both small and large groups

  • Effective written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skill in effectively supervising design consultants and contractors.

  • Expertise in construction projects involving environmental contamination preferred.

  • Experience in successfully navigating multiple-agency permit approval processes.

  • Highly efficient and detail-oriented with excellent documentation and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in scheduling software such as Microsoft Project or SmartSheets

  • Experience with aviation support facility projects is highly desirable.

  • Understanding of all general building components including site elements, foundations, building core & shell, MEP, and T.I.s

  • Understanding of project budgets and cost management, able to determine forecasts in required costs, maintaining project invoicing and billings and able to generate high-level (ROM) estimates on design and construction scopes of work.

  • Understanding and experience with contract administration

  • Experience processing or coordinating construction submittals and RFI’s

  • Experience working with federal agencies

  • Works with a sense of urgency

  • Is a self-motivated individual with a “can do” attitude
