Job Summary

AECOM currently has an opportunity for a Senior Historical Heritage Specialist in our Sydney based heritage team.

AECOM has a multidisciplinary team of dedicated heritage specialists located across Australia with experience in both Aboriginal and historical archaeology, including undertaking built heritage assessments for State and Federal clients. Our team of heritage specialists offer clients expertise in heritage assessments, impact assessments and permitting, excavation and community consultation.

Minimum Requirements

We are seeking a motivated professional with a strong client focus, excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver technical excellence to join our Sydney heritage team. Key responsibilities would include:

  • Undertaking historical heritage assessments, preparing statements of heritage impact, research designs and conservation management plans

  • Undertaking archaeological survey and excavation

  • Conducting field activities independently, within a team, and in remote areas

  • Preparing permit applications (e.g., Section 57/60/140 applications)

  • Providing specialist technical advice on heritage management to clients

  • Liaise and develop positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.


  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in archaeology or similar field

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in historical archaeology, with a focus on historical archaeology and/or preparation of historical heritage assessments

  • Experience as an excavation director would be ideal but not a prerequisite

  • Demonstrated experience obtaining permits under the NSW Heritage Act

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Demonstrated time management and organisation skills

  • Current C class drivers licence
