About the role

The Director of Business Development (DBD) will hold total responsibility for all business development activities for Hilton Sydney.

This position will oversee and direct all aspects of the sales, marketing, public relations and revenue management, and will be responsible for strategies and activities aimed at obtaining the highest possible RevPar and yield for the hotel. This position will be the key business partner to the Hotel General Manager for revenue analytics and require exceptional stakeholder management.


  • Fully contribute to and drive the design of the hotel business strategy
  • Actively participate in the key management issues of the property (e.g. planned refurbishment, training, customer service improvement campaigns)
  • Is responsible for analysing competitors’ activities and pricing strategy. Analysis of fair market share with 5 major competitors on a monthly and YTD basis
  • Rooms - Analyse trends of business by market segment, channel and GOB – co-ordinates all activities to maintain and increase revenue through added business volume and increased rate
  • Responsible through the Revenue Manager to maximise occupancy and average rate through good inventory and yield management control
  • Analyse performance of existing customers
  • Develop key account management which increases Hilton’s market power and closer matches the way customers choose to buy for CORP, Leisure and MICE
  • Develop the right Account Plans torepurpose teams to ensure that sales resources are mobilised to drive market share from Key Accounts with the highest potential
  • Ensure that effective processes are in place for the recruitment, induction, training and development of all customers facing sales, marketing and revenue management people in the hotel
  • Encourage the movement of sales revenue, events and marketing people around the department and between hotels
  • In conjunction with the Marketing team, Ensure that the hotel is well marketed on Internet and other distribution channels within agreed Hilton standards
  • Produces the annual Revenue Plan, S&M budgets and forecasts in conjunction with Hotel Team
  • Monthly review of expenses and if needed, adjusted
  • Review and approval of all expense accounts for BD Team

  • Hospitality/Travel/leisure industry management professional
  • Ideally, Education level: college degree or equivalent
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience in drafting and managing budgets/revenue proposals; analysing and forecasting results/market segments and rates
  • Culturally aware and flexible
  • Excellent people motivator; good communication skills
  • Excellent and fluent command of English, written & spoken
  • Computer literate
  • Proficient in accounts management/events management systems

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • Knowledge of the hotel property management systems
  • Previous experience in the same or similar role
