Assistant Platform Manager
Under limited supervision, the Assistant Platform Manager will provide engineering services including but not limited to: a. Provide leadership and management of a multi-disciplined project team and coordinate project activities including support to strategic planning, governance functions and human resource management;
b. Accountable to lead a team, allocate work, resources and tasks; set work area priorities, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes;
c. Manage workflows and resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes;
d. Communicate requirements and understand legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks;
e. Evaluate technical deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives;
f. Review, analyse and report upon submarine design performance, safety, operational effectiveness and environmental issues in acquisition;
g. Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders at the strategic and operational level; and
h. Management and planning of Naval Architecture related S&T activities
Seaworthiness Assurance Manager
Under limited supervision, the Seaworthiness Assurance Manager will provide engineering services
including but not limited to:
a. Provide leadership and management of the Seaworthiness Assurance team responsible for
Operational Effectiveness, Safety and Environmental Protection outcomes, the integration of
Human Factors into the FSM design and the development of the Engineering Management
b. Support strategic planning, governance functions and human resource management;
c. Lead the development and management of the Seaworthiness Assurance Case;
d. Lead a team, allocate work, resources and tasks; set work area priorities, develop strategies
and evaluate business outcomes;
e. Manage workflows and resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable
milestones and expected outcomes;
f. Communicate Seaworthiness requirements and understand legislative, policy and regulatory
g. Review, analyse and report upon submarine design performance, safety, operational
effectiveness and environmental issues in acquisition; and
h. Interface with key Defence Seaworthiness, Navy & other FIC stakeholders to achieve
In addition, the following qualifications and experience are considered highly desirable for the position: a. 10 years’ experience, including naval submarine design and preferably during the Concept/Basic Design Phase;
b. Bachelor of Engineering degree accredited with Engineers Australia;
c. This engineering position requires the individual to be able to meet the requirements of Chartered Professional Engineer (Engineers Australia), Registered Professional Engineer (Professionals Australia) or Member of Royal Institution of Naval Architects; and
d. The Assistant Platform Managers must have broad experience across several key Naval Architecture /Mechanical or Electrical Engineering disciplines including Weight/Spatial Management, Submarine Structures, Power & Energy Systems and Ship Systems preferably for submarines.
In addition, the following qualifications and experience are considered highly desirable for the position:
a. 10 years’ experience in, and direct responsibility of, developing assurance programs,
preferably during the early design phases; and
b. Engineers Australia Chartered Engineering Associate recognition (or ability to obtain status
as of a Chartered Engineering Associate within three months).
