The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Ethics & Compliance (E&C) Office advances and fosters integrity based decision making and conduct by PwC professionals throughout our organization.
We promote and monitor compliance with applicable external laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures, and thus help manage PwC's regulatory, litigation and reputational risk.
The Independence Compliance Group is a critical component of E&C, and its overarching responsibilities are (i) to perform quality control procedures to determine whether partners and employees are in compliance with external and internal independence policies, and (ii) to provide guidance and training to PwC partners and employees regarding independence policies and processes in support of the shared responsibility PwC employees have to maintain compliance with their respective independence requirements based on their role in the organization. Independence Compliance professionals use the insights gained from quality control procedures performed to recommend solutions that increase personal independence compliance by PwC professionals, which has improved significantly in the past several years.
The main work-streams that comprise the Independence Compliance Group are:
Auditing and monitoring the compliance of partners and staff
- perform audits of the financial interests and arrangements of partners and staff; evaluate independence inquiries that arise on an on-going basis; and determine what actions and/or sanctions are appropriate in the circumstances.
Assessing the compliance requirements of partners and staff before entering new roles
- evaluate financial interests and arrangements of all personnel prior to commencement of
PwC employment; evaluate financial interests and arrangements of individuals proposed for promotion to the manager level and those being considered for admission to the PwC partnership.
Minimum Year(s) of Experience: 2
Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma or GED
Degree Preferred: Bachelor's degree
Working knowledge of Independence rules and regulations. Working knowledge of compliance processes and procedures in a professional services organization.
Demonstrated ability to: Understand and apply complex policies to myriad scenarios, and utilize judgment appropriately. Test and monitor compliance with personal independence requirements for partners and staff Help partners and employees comply with independence policies and procedures at promotion points that cause them to have new independence requirements Challenge the status quo, and recommend alternative solutions. Communicate clearly and professionally, orally and in writing. Assist in developing complex technical documents and presentations. Work on ad hoc assignments while also executing daily responsibilities. Work productively in an environment with evolving deadlines and priorities. Employ analytical and technical skills. Proactively identify problems before crises arise, notify leadership, and propose solutions. Pay significant attention to detail to identify and correct issues. Promote an atmosphere of trust, professionalism and integrity. Participate in training other team members. Use technology effectively and efficiently (intermediate/advanced skill with Microsoft Office products).
