_Responsibilities:_ This job description for the RN in the Emergency Department provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the staff RN position. Plans, directs, implements and evaluates individualized goal-directed nursing care to an assigned group of patients, including newborn, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. _ _ 1. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating for assigned patients. 2. Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice for Emergency Nursing and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment. 3. Maintains competency in performing skills outlined in the ED competency skills checklist. 4. Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care. 5. Responsible for administration of medications, knowledge of actions, indications, adverse reaction, dosage and route. 6. Obtains various specimens according to protocols. 7. Assists physician with procedures. 8. Maintains clear and respectful communication with patient, family, physician, and other healthcare providers. 9. Responsible for direction of emergent care in crisis situation in a calm, knowledgeable manner. 10. Responsible to know and conform to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Board's rules and regulations as well as all federal, state, or local laws, rules or regulations affecting the RN's current area of nursing practice. 11. Responsible to report unsafe nursing practice by an RN for which a nurse has reasonable cause to suspect that the practice has exposed, or is likely to expose, a client unnecessarily to risk of harm as a result of failing to provide client care that conforms to the minimum standards of acceptable and prevailing professional practice. The RN should report unsafe practice conditions or other practitioners to the appropriate authority or licensing board. 12. Responsible to clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the RN makes the decision not to administer the medication or treatment. 13. Ensures that nursing staff interactions with assigned patient group(s) are appropriate and in accordance with patient's age, developmental level. 14. Provide leadership and support as needed to assigned staff members, training new staff and acting as preceptor as designated. 15. Assumes responsibility of charging unit, as appropriate. 16. Adheres to and complies with the HCA Code of Conduct as part of our Ethics and Compliance program. Attends annual training sessions.
Experience: Previous experience in Emergency Nursing is preferred
Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Educational requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of patients presenting to the ED.
Special Qualifications: 1. Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners 2. Current CPR, ACLS, ENPC/PALS, NVCI , (TNCC preferred) RN's newly hired into the Emergency Department must be current in CPR, successfully complete ACLS , PALS/ENPC and become NIHSS certified within 6 months of hire, and must successfully complete TNCC within 18 months of hire
