What’s the role?

The role of the Capability Center Manager ensures the Capability Centers and Centers of Excellence remain cost neutral and provide world class technology services to application development and enhancement projects for both applications and infrastructure services. They are involved in appropriate resource and portfolio planning for the suite of technical services provided and ensure that cost recovery mechanisms support cost neutrality and long-term sustainability.

You will bring your experience in resource management, such as identifying the required scale of the resources, securing them, prioritizing and allocating resources and monitoring the usage of those resources appropriately, ensuring our best resources work on our most challenging projects using your strategic analytical and project management skills. You will create the optimum mix of internal and external resources and the desired geographical balance between the IT Hubs and other business proximate locations.

We will call on your proven leadership skills and qualities as you manage the resource pool within the capability center, particularly focusing on talent development, capability building, mentoring and succession planning. You will also use your relationship management skills to partner with senior stakeholders both in the IT organisation and into the wider Shell businesses.

You'll define the sourcing strategy working in close collaboration with suppliers as well as the Delivery Managers, Product Line Managers, and Product Managers in Business Interface team and other key stakeholders.

Ultimately, your talents will drive implementation efficiency and effectiveness as well as increase speed of implementation to maximize the value delivery to the business

What do we need from you?

  • Extensive experience in IT partnered with an equal level of experience in management positions

  • Your unparalleled ability to lead a team and to maintain a productive course in an evolving environment. This requires a strong visible leader who can inspire the staff and the broader team

  • Proven skills in managing and interfacing with senior stakeholders both from the internal IT organisation, to the wider business community to build strong partnerships and delivery model structures with each of the businesses

  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate across business boundaries to deliver people, process, and technology solutions that improve business performance

  • Your strong awareness and experience in managing the risks around complex change projects (e.g. integration, data, change)

  • Relevant degree, postgraduate and working qualifications preferred in the Information Technology field

  • Previous experience in resource management and an understanding on how to lead and drive business simplification journeys
