Position Summary:

  • Works in conjunction with the Physical Therapist to implement and update treatment plans to maximize patient progress toward established short and long term goals.
  • Clearly and concisely documents patient progress and education on a daily basis in the patient’s medical record.
  • Each service area may require specialized skills and/or serve specific age categories, which may include pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Treatment is provided in compliance with the Hospital and Physical Therapy Service Policies and Procedures.
  • Supports the Hospital and department at all times and participates in the Department and Hospital Performance Improvement efforts.Assumes responsibility for maintaining and improving Physical Therapy knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment.

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

BLS for HealthCare Providers (in accordance with American Heart Association Guidelines) Active Physical Therapist Assistant Certification in the State of Colorado

B. Education:

Completion of an accredited program for Physical Therapist Assistants.

C. Experience:

Successful completion of student clinical rotation or work experience in at least one of the following settings: acute care hospital, long-term acute care facility, skilled nursing facility, and/or acute rehabilitation setting.

D. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Works cooperatively with the entire healthcare team.

  2. Provides treatment and education of patients according to the plan of care established by a physical therapist in accordance with The Joint Commission and Medicare regulations.

  3. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, physicians and other hospital personnel.

  4. Practices safety measures in all patients care duties.

  5. Accurately and completely documents patient progress and education of patients/families.

  6. Collaborates with the physical therapist to update/modify the patient’s plan of care.

  7. Patients may include individuals of ages from pediatric, adolescent and adult to geriatric. Treatment modalities are utilized in accordance with the age and special needs of the patient.

  8. Assists the physical therapist in patient /family education, implementation of appropriate interventions, promotes patient participation and works closely with the physical therapist to re-evaluate outcomes and update short/long term goals.

  9. Administers treatment modalities and procedures in a safe and effective manner, based on the physician’s prescription and the physical therapist’s professional judgment in an accurate, safe and timely manner.

  10. Participates in functional improvement team, hospital and department in-services and other educational activities that help improve the goals and standards of care.

  11. Recognizes behavior or attitudes that interfere with effective team performance and initiates measures to resolve conflicts that disrupt high quality patient care.

  12. Adheres to Infection Control/Standard Precautions while performing all duties.

  13. Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of all department equipment.

  14. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding patient rights.

  15. Follows all Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures.

  16. Maintains good attendance, as well as displays professional conduct and dress at all times.

  17. Demonstrates understanding of Hospital and Department safety and emergency procedures.

  18. Demonstrates competency for all standards on the performance appraisal.

  19. Performs additional duties as assigned.
