The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Officer is member of a cohesive team specially trained in hostage and victim rescue, special tactics and planning, and the use of specialized equipment, firearms and other weapons capable of an immediate on-site response to effectively and safely resolve a variety of critical security incidents including terrorist aggression, workplace violence, active shooter, and hostage situations. The ERT Officer must operate as a member of a cohesive ERT designed to support emergency response operations. The ERT Officer, after completion of required NASA Federal Arrest Authority and if required, Federal Magistrate Program Training, will act in the capacity of a law enforcement officer and have arrest and apprehension authority on the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC) installation.

Conduct all duties outlined by the ERT Commander, Shift Supervisor, or Team Lead.
Participate physically demanding endurance and strength training, and team training scenarios and exercises on weekly basis.
Continuously maintain weapons qualifications at 90% or better with all assigned and team issued systems.
Maintain physical standards to meet contract requirements.
Maintain all related technical certifications required by ERT and NASA.
Be prepared to work varied hours and days off to meet the operational requirements of the ERT.
Be subject to 24/7 recall for emergency response.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be previously fully commissioned by an accredited law enforcement agency or possess a Diploma or Certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, local or military service approved/recognized basic law enforcement or a physical security academy.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in security or law enforcement operations experience in the armed forces, security, police, or civilian equivalent or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of specialized experience directly related to the work performed in physical security or law enforcement.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state driver’s license.
Attend and Pass a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)/ERT basic course.
Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
Must be able to meet or exceed the ERT Security Officers Physical Fitness Requirements.
Must be able to successfully pass all required Psychological examinations.
Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
Must be able to obtain and maintain secret clearance.
Honorably discharged (If Applicable)
Must be able to pass and maintain NASA Federal Arrest Authority (FAA) certification.
Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture.
Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenburg Act.

Must be able to pass the physical standards set forth by NASA for ERT Abilities Test requirements.

41 push-ups within 1 minute

5 Pull-ups (full extension) within 1 minute
This course must be completed within 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
Defensive Tactics station – 1-minute drill with kicks, punches and baton strikes. Repetitive verbal commands must be given during the drill.
Low-crawl under designated obstacles for 20 yards.
Run over successive berms to the far end of KSC firing range.
At designated table, don entry vest and helmet (provided). Pick up door breeching ram and proceed to rappel tower.
Drop ram and ascend rappel tower with entry vest and helmet. Touch the top floor of the tower and descend.
Pick up ram again and run to pre-positioned BEARCAT Vehicle. Enter the rear of the BEARCAT Vehicle with ram. Once inside the BEARCAT Vehicle, don gas mask. Pick up and open box containing miscellaneous items to be memorized for the KIMS Game test (used to teach and measure advanced observational skills) and exit the BEARCAT Vehicle.
Proceed to designated station, disassemble, and reassemble the Glock 17 handgun. Conduct function check with handgun in a safe direction down range.
Leave the handgun on the table, pick up a pre-positioned ballistic shield and proceed to the finish line.
Time ends when applicant crosses the finish line with the shield.
KIMS Game test- Identify at least 50% of items in the box for record.
Must be able to achieve the following weapons qualification scores:
Handgun - 90 or higher
Shotgun - 90 or higher
Rifle or Sub-machine gun - 90 or higher
Must be able to score 80% or better on a written exam
Must pass an Oral Interview/Review Board

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
