IBM Director, IP Licensing, Asia Pacific in TOKYO, Japan

Job Description

Responsible for leading IBM patent licensing and assignment activities for the entire Asia-Pacific region, as well as IBM Research technology licensing activities for Japan and Korea.

Lead cross-geographic and cross-functional in: identifying, pursuing, progressing and closing patent licensing and assignment transactions with Asia-Pacific prospects; directing analyses of product/service offerings and patent portfolios of prospects; identifying and analyzing the impact of IBM patents relevant to current/future offerings of prospects; developing negotiation strategy and tactics for prospects; establishing relationships with applicable patent, IP and business personnel of prospects; leading negotiations, finalizing business and legal terms with prospects, and closing transactions. Lead a team of technology licensing business development professionals in promoting IBM Research technology assets and capabilities to Japan and Korea prospects, developing business use cases, ROI analyses and value propositions, negotiating business and legal terms and closing transactions. Cross-functional teams comprised of Intellectual Property (both patent and technology licensing) business development executives in Asia-Pacific and counterparts in the US, Legal (General Legal and Intellectual Property Legal),

Finance/Accounting/Tax, Trust & Compliance, and Export Controls personnel, as well as patent engineering and IBM research technologists. Extensive interaction with senior executives in the US and cross-functional team members across multiple timezones in the US and Asia-Pacific.

Frequent travel (2X per month) within Asia and quarterly travel to the US required. Strong English verbal and writing skills required. Knowledge of patent law, principles and litigation in the US and/or other jurisdictions, and direct experience in patent analyses and advocacy in confrontational settings, strongly preferred.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Experience in negotiations, contracting, building sales and licensing pipeline, understanding of legal concepts, presenting customer value proposals, managing patent and technology licensing professionals, fluency in Japanese highly desired with strong English speaking skills

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

Strong English verbal and writing skills required. Knowledge of patent law, principles and litigation in the US and/or other jurisdictions, and direct experience in patent analyses and advocacy in confrontational settings, strongly preferred.

Legal experience important, understanding of patent law, litigation and other legal concepts very helpful.

Bachelor's Degree/Master's Degree(preferred)
