Field Manager, Risk Control
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Manages work assignments for assigned staff in managers territory and leverages Specialists involvement when required. Identifies development opportunities and resources, working with each staff member to construct individual development plans on a yearly basis. Conducts co-surveys and survey/file reviews with local staff as required by our formal QA process. Provides regular feedback and mentoring regarding performance and improvement needs. Coordinates training for local staff in conjunction with regional initiatives. Completes formal performance evaluations on each staff member on an annual basis and informal, documented reviews quarterly. Monitors business partner plans and maintains staffing to meet workload demand. Works with the National Director to maintain and ensure proper staffing resource to meet business needs in the territory. Provide the National Director with needed intelligence to make prudent staffing decisions. Attends and participates as appropriate in regional and local office profit center meetings. Builds and maintains productive relationships with underwriting and service teams assigned to all businesses, with the broker/agent community, with Claim, with other Risk Control staff, and with clients. Provide education and training necessary to keep our business partners current with available RC products and services. Directs activities focused on meeting Risk Control annual Business Plan Conducts or assists with marketing presentations to clients, agents or other outside groups. May conduct risk control surveys at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/risk selection. Serves as resource to Account Executives/business unit management in development of complex deals. Participates in sales and marketing presentations to potential insured's as required. Coach staff on consultation with clients on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent losses. Influence clients to implement recommendations. Constantly seeks to improve our efficiency and effectiveness. Assists staff with the identification and coordination of large Middle Market accounts and assisting in the development of Service Strategy Development Plans. Conduct research for underwriters or clients on class of business, operations, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory environment and emerging safety issues. Develop and document success stories relating to measurable reductions in loss frequency and/or severity. Maintain timely, frequent and relevant communications with the National Director. Provide regular updates on staff performance comparing to divisional benchmarks as appropriate and other behavioral measures. Provide more feedback to specialist manager on local specialist. Prepares his or her territory for the annual Operations Review.

Assist the National director in locating and hiring/replacing personnel. Technical Expertise: Capable of handling regular all lines assignments generally assigned to a field staff member. Has a solid understanding of all lines of insurance (Property, GL, Products, Auto, etc) their exposures and safety related controls. Has mastered all relevant computer systems applications. Analytical Skills: Applies Safety Management System concepts in helping clients develop systems for continuous safety improvement. Analyzes loss information to identify root causes and develop loss sensitive recommendations. Analyzes information provided by potential insureds in order to provide a written report to Underwriting that will help them make their decision on pricing and acceptability of a given account. Communication: Builds open communications with all staff members. Makes complex technical information and recommendations understandable and clear to audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge. Builds open communications with business partners. Takes initiative to keep business partners informed of emerging account issues. Influences others to take action on recommendations. Customer Service: Builds credibility with internal and external customers. Creates customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of loss control services and responding to their needs. Balances customer expectations and expense constraints.
Reports to the Risk Control Director, Canada. Manages work assignments for staff in assigned territory, provides input to the National Director on staff performance and development, and acts as Risk Control liaison to local business partners. Depending on the size of their staff, he/she may deliver risk control services and/or account consultant services to clients in assigned territory. Assists in marketing of insurance products. Provides technical advice and account information to underwriting business partners for risk assessment and analysis. Monitors expenses and provides input on compensation, bonuses, and budgetary matters as well as performance measurements.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:
Strong technical background such as a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science or Fire Protection Technology with additional training in Business Administration or Management preferred but not mandatory. Preferably in a field managers role over the last 3-5 years.

Have the ability to navigate through customer sites in a safe manner, which may include manufacturing areas, warehouses, storage yards, construction sites, etc. which may present surfaces that are uneven, wet, icy, and somewhat unstable or covered with debris. Have the ability to navigate within a customer facility in low light or relatively dark conditions. Be capable of making regular and prompt travel over extended distances by air or vehicle while demonstrating effective planning, expense and cost control skills. Must have the ability to work exposed to extreme outdoor/indoor conditions (heat, snow, cold, rain etc.).

Licensing or Certificates:
P. Eng., CIP and CRM designations preferred but not mandatory.
