BMO Financial Group Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing, BMO Private Wealth in Toronto, Ontario



This role is responsible for the leadership, development and execution of strategic marketing initiatives in support of BMO Private Wealth. BMO Private Wealth is the unification of BMO’s full-service brokerage businesses (BMO Nesbitt Burns) and Private Banking into a new organization servicing wealth management needs of high net-worth individuals and families. BMO Private Wealth is focused on accelerated growth and the Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing will be responsible for integrated strategic marketing planning focused on client segment marketing, product marketing, national strategic initiatives as well as be the Private Wealth leader to support One-Bank initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Planning (40%):

  • Collaborate with business partners to develop strategic initiatives and plans, providing marketing consultation and recommendations to deliver against business goals

  • Develop marketing strategies to support high growth client segments, setting clear KPIs and metrics to measure performance and impact to the business

  • Develop marketing strategies to support existing and new product and service offerings

  • Be the Private Wealth leader on One-Bank strategic initiatives, actively leading and participating as required to ensure coordinated strategic plans and execution

  • Develop integrated marketing plans leveraging all channels available

  • Develop disciplined performance tracking system for all strategic initiatives to monitor performance and leverage data analytics to inform/support recommendations

Relationship Management (20%):

  • Facilitate the process of incorporating multiple stakeholder views

  • Work with various internal and external partners including: Private Wealth executives and lines of business, Personal & Business Banking, Capital Markets, Creative and Media agencies, Legal/Compliance/Regulatory, etc.

  • Leverage communication and change management skills to ensure all stakeholders are informed, engaged and aligned

  • Leverage relationships to remain informed on strategies and tactics being developed and deployed elsewhere in the Enterprise

People Management (20%):

  • Manage a team of three (3) direct reports to build the strategic marketing capability within Private Wealth team

  • Manage project allocation across team to ensure individual and team’s development

  • Coach and develop team through 1w1s, project leadership and performance feedback

  • Lead a performance-driven culture

Project Management (20%):

  • Lead and supervise strategic initiatives for Private Wealth ensuring that plans are aligned to business priorities and projects are delivered on time and on budget

  • Drive effective communication on strategic priorities and plans to stakeholders to ensure alignment


Education & Experience:

  • University Degree (Business, Media/Marketing or similar focus an asset)

  • MBA Preferred

  • Demonstrated experience working in matrix organizations, collaboratively working with internal and external partners to develop and execute strategic initiatives with proven business results

  • Experience with integrated marketing planning and ability to build a data-driven narrative to support recommendations to executives

  • Experience with presenting and interacting with executives

  • Experience as a People Manager and demonstrated results to develop and coach a high performing team


  • Demonstrated understanding of business fundamentals and marketing as a driver to enable growth

  • Demonstrated analytic skills in strategic and quantitative analysis, particularly using data analytics to identify insights, draw conclusions and make recommendations

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage projects and work plans; establish objectives, deadlines, and processes, and facilitate the coordination, integration and implementation of marketing initiatives across the channels

  • Ability to effectively manage ambiguity and solve problems creatively and independently

  • Excellent relationship management skills including strong ability to influence people at all levels of an organization

  • Proven ability to be a change agent and leadership skills to motivate others towards change

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with an emphasis on presentation development skills

  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively with teams that have diverse skills, knowledge, and backgrounds

  • Self starter who is motivated, proactive, is results-oriented and has a bias for action

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage resources
