The Strategic Projects and Partnerships Leader is responsible for developing new distribution routes and accessibility channels for our Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (‘OCIO’) business in Canada. The role also touches heavily on investment product and business strategy development for the overall Wealth business in Canada, encompassing DC, DB, Private Wealth, Administration and E&F client segments. Key responsibilities for this role include: Help drive the innovation agenda for the Wealth business. Ensuring the Canadian business remains market leading and technologically relevant in the Wealth space for our clients. Assessing new solution or partnership ideas/concepts that are seeking investment. Subsequently creating well rounded and supported business cases and advocating for new developments with senior leadership. Such reviews will assess market demand and commercial viability of the offering are fully vetted prior to the business making any investment. Designing, implementing and overseeing new business innovations and partnerships to grow the distribution of Mercer’s OCIO capabilities across Canada. The role is responsible for successfully expanding and adding new Canadian distribution channels and accessibility routes to Mercer’s range of global multi manager investment funds. Assisting the Canadian Wealth Leader with business strategy as it relates to new acquisitions, approaches to partnership development, and ensuring the Canadian Wealth business is optimally positioned to manage the global shift from DB to DC to individual wealth ownership. Coordinating and managing cross business, multi-functional and multi-faceted project teams to execute upon decided business strategy. Project teams will span investment operations, client reporting, consultants, other lines of business, legal, compliance, portfolio managers, sales leaders, finance, marketing, brand, administration, communications, technology, global and regional leadership, and equivalent external partner project team members. Developing and overseeing governance of newly developed partnerships and related investment products. This role will be responsible for setting goals and tracking the performance and success of any new innovations and strategies arising, as well as providing guidance on priority investment opportunities and divestments to ensure the Canadian business remains “future bright”. Reporting from this position will allow for efficient decision making by Canadian leadership and will ensure that we are maximizing our revenue opportunities. Assisting portfolio management and investment operations teams with the design, development and launch of newly created multi manager, multi asset investment funds and products. This position plays a key role in the determination of top down asset allocation, alongside our equity and bond portfolio management teams, and our consulting partners. Actively driving the sales initiatives for newly developed products and distribution channels. Establishing and maintaining a strong pipeline of potential prospects. Participating and frequently leading sales pitches to prospects and existing clients, alongside consultants and sales pros. Acquiring the respect of consultants and engaging them on new products, ensuring they are well trained about new offerings and well equipped to pitch new solutions to clients. With minimal resourcing, the incumbent will need to design infrastructure, communicate out, partner with local business leaders and their teams, to enable successful product development, oversight and execution discipline for the portfolio of Canadian Wealth products and partnerships we take to market. Knowledge & Skills: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, actuarial science or business CFA or Actuarial Fellowship required Broad and deep investment management and/or asset management experience, and a thorough understanding of the Wealth landscape across all client segments – DC/DB/ E&F/Private Wealth/Individual At least 8 years’ industry experience, encompassing at least 3 years of investment product /solutions management experience; and a further 3 years’ covering a combination of investment consulting, portfolio management and investment product development Demonstrated experience in successful partnership creation and negotiation with insurance carriers/ investment managers/ platform providers/ pension plans and in working alongside legal counsel Extensive understanding of the various types of investment fund products and their legal and regulatory structures and operational restrictions, both domestic and globally Experience creating multi asset, multi manager investment funds and in managing fund restructures/ closures/ launches/ asset reallocation Experience with business cases, budgeting, risk assessments, IT scoping and digital enhancement projects required Demonstrated ability to influence and converse at the C-suite level Mercer delivers advice and technology-driven solutions that help organizations meet the health, wealth and career needs of a changing workforce.
