PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Damage Prevention: Delivers safe loading methods and resolve freight (commodity / lading / product) damage problems. Root cause analysis of damage exceptions for all customer lines of business (Intermodal, Automotive or Boxcar/Merchandise)
Liability Management: Manage liability & risk exposure within legal and contract terms of sales.
Leadership within assigned customer line of business or territory providing guidance and instruction to stakeholders (customers and internal CP) for exception management, shipment quality/damage avoidance, freight claims and commodity/lading liability.
Accountable to respond to derailment and exception situations 24/7 to support CP operations and mitigate loss and expense to CP.
Use data (statistical and trend analysis) and physical observation to identify root cause of customer commodity/lading damage exceptions and recommend solutions to mitigate and deliver an improved customer experience.
Support Freight Claim Investigators to review and approve customer commodity / lading (freight & service) claims for assigned line of business or customers.
Deliver effective exception management of issues impacting lading, supporting CP clients and external stakeholders who require support as a business enabler or dependency for new or existing business conditions;
Align customer freight liability terms to corporate standards to protect CP core product and for delivering this criterion to other stakeholders (including customers when applicable);
Respond to derailment and exception situations when required to mitigate loss for internal & external stakeholders;
Deliver regular quality and liability activity reports to support departmental information needs;
Ensure all prevention, settlements, inspection, pre and post investigation activities and methods comply with required and applicable CP and regulatory standards.
Ability to interpret, connect and analyze various information and various concepts for decision-making.
Ability to weigh options and make thought out decisions timely to influence change and support safe loading and risk management.
Creative ability to find innovative improvement opportunities while balancing accountabilities, specifically with external customers.
Ability to communicate and influence stakeholders (customers, associations and internal groups) up to the GM level.
Supervisory or leadership experience leading union or non-unionized staff an asset.
Ability to work independently, remaining self-motivated.
