Summary:

The Database Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise in the analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of high-volume geospatial databases within the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)

  • Maintenance and support for VLDB databases

  • Installs, maintains, and refreshes database for development and test environments

  • Performs enterprise geodatabase upgrade and migration as necessary

  • Analyzes performance issues and providing recommendation based on testing results

  • Maintains database configurations in compliance with release management and change management

  • Creates, configures, and manages ESRI enterprise geodatabases

  • Performs geospatial data processing/ETL and publishing of data into enterprise geodatabases

  • Implements GIS data security, access, distribution, and retention

  • Replicates, synchronizes, and restores enterprise geodatabases

  • Troubleshoots and supports end user versioning, multi-user editing, and distributed data workflows within enterprise geodatabases

  • Implements geodatabase design standards, including advanced geodatabase functionality

  • Performs geodatabaseadministration, configuration, tuning, and performance monitoring

  • Consults in the design, architecture, and implementation of backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies and the implications of each with respect to enterprise geodatabases

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer related fields preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with geospatial database production support on medium/large environments

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with database architecture within virtual environments

  • Experience with RDBMS installations & configuration

  • Experience with daily database administration activities such as storage layout, database replication, backup/restore, database patching, maintenance, upgrades, and access control should be second nature

  • Virtualization of high-performance database environments experience

  • Operations support as well as Cloud operation experience

  • ESRI Enterprise Geodata Management Associate or Professional Certification

  • RDBMS Certification

  • CompTIA Security Certification

  • TS/SCI required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of high availability databases

  • Operating system knowledge (Unix, Linux and/or Windows)

  • Proficient with automation of maintenance tasks using RDBMS SQL procedural language (e.g., PL/SQL, TSQL, PL/pgSQL) and scripting tools such as shell script, Perl or Python

  • Superior troubleshooting skills, battle-tested in high-volume production environments

  • Strong knowledge of RDBMS internals (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL)

  • Strong database administration and SQL skills

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex issues involving backup/recovery, information life cycle management, and disaster recovery for geospatial databases designed to support very large user communities.

  • Must be able to support large enterprise initiatives and help resolve architectural issues in the environment and database infrastructure, as well as develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the database architecture and the application functionality.
