  • The Access Control Specialist serves as primary issuer of employee, contractor, temporary visitor, proximity badges/passes, credentials, and Personal Identification Verification (PIV) for EOP civilian and contractor personnel. The Access Control Specialist collects biometric data to facilitate issuance of PIV cards. The position is responsible for administering and monitoring the performance of installation access processes to include: criminal background checks, biometric data collections, personal identification verification credentials, and visitor control systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Access Control Specialists are required to work from 0500-1300, 1300-2100 and 1500-2300 at the Fort Myer VCC..

  • Maintain access control registers, databases, installation access denial/approved packets, records and dispose of files in accordance with records administration regulations and procedures.

  • Search general administrative and security files for information requested by local security and law enforcement agencies.

  • Perform and resolve a full range of both standard and procedural and non-recurring visitor access assignments to include methods of tracking access cards/badges.

  • Screen, control, prepare, issue and authenticate access identification badges, cards, and passes.

  • Locate and transcribe data using specialized codes IAW federal and state regulations.

  • Operate and maintain various items of access, cameras, control equipment and automated systems to include computer equipment used in the identification and registration process.

  • Operates and performs research queries on the NCIC workstation terminal(s) and other ancillary equipment used for creating installation identification.

  • As events occur, collect, correlate, characterize and review duty log all domestic events to include either Maritime or Land/MACA, and Interagency Coordination and Civil Support used for creating installation identification.

  • Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.

  • Shift work required; must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed.

Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience

  • Secret clearance

  • Must submit to a drug test

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of security regulations policies, procedures, methods and objectives of security programs.

  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook.

  • Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment.

  • Skill in approaching others in a tactful manner; reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.

  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
