We have an immediate opening for a full-time entry level hire to join our Tokyo office, working mainly on intellectual property projects.

NERA is widely recognized as a leading provider of expertise in the economics of intellectual property (IP). We apply rigorous economic analysis in IP disputes to determine damages in connection with infringement and breach-of-contract claims involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, and to address such issues as irreparable harm, the commercial success of a patent, and the impact of claimed false or misleading advertising. Our understanding of the operation of markets across industries where IP plays a role allows us to prepare and present accurate and defensible analyses in these assignments.

Responsibilities may include, but would not be limited to:

Support for data process and analysis using excel and statistic software such as R, STATA.

Search for information and data of industries and companies, court cases, and regulations

Assist in preparation of economic analysis reports/papers

Assist in preparation of presentation materials

Translation from Japanese into English and from English to Japanese Qualifications

BA with some work experiences or MA in survey-research-related field (working knowledge of statistics is desirable; background in economics is recommended but not required)

Skills in data analysis (working knowledge in either R, Stata, or SAS is desirable)

Some experience in conducting survey research

Excellent oral and written communications skills both in Japanese and English

Detail-oriented, ability to think analytically and critically

Capability to work as a team member

Skills in conducting basic research (finding and reviewing cases, searching for and reading books and papers, etc.)
