Monsanto is currently seeking highly motivated individuals for current and future roles as Agronomic Research Specialists to assist in all phases of a breeding program. These roles may be available in any of the following locations. East Coastal Region: Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi.

Agronomic Research Specialists contribute in all phases of breeding programs and will have the opportunity to work in all operations related to field trials, seed preparation, field plot management, data collection, harvesting and trial plots for all major crops in a specific region including Soybeans, Cotton, Corn, Wheat, and Sorghum. This is a unique opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented research scientists seeking to deliver the best in Genetically Modified Crops.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Administer breeding nurseries, interact with scientists and breeders on and off-site to support and advance the pipeline

  • Participate in planting operations, field/plot maintenance, pollination, data collection and harvest.

  • Utilization of research equipment such as planters, combines and hand held computers for note taking.

  • Participate in computer related activities to support data collection and QC

  • Support seed processing operations, drying, packaging and shipping

  • Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to field personnel.

  • Supervision and training of temporary employees

  • Work closely with other research sites to keep program operating efficiently

  • Participate with team to successfully maintain Quality Standards and support the Quality Management System.

  • Assist in projects and perform other duties as and when required

  • Overnight travel for training and other meetings are likely during the year

Required Education and Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, or related field of study

  • Ability to work extended hours during the peak planting and harvesting seasons

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Programs

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills

Desired Education and Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with breeding and research methodologies

  • Knowledge of crop production, farming practices, and farm equipment operation and repair

  • Knowledge of basic statistics and experimental design principles

  • Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)
