Combined Insurance AVP, Operations Manager in United States

Responsible for providing operational support to the Field and Home Office Underwriting for new/changed systems, products and specific field requests across multiple lines of business. Responsible for coordinating all activities with Underwriting, Product Delivery and OGC-Product Services for validation and rationalization of workflow documentation included in Business Requirements. Responsible for ensuring timely response to field requests for workflow updates or changes. Conduct analysis and develop ROI and productivity impact on new and changing workflows and/or business initiatives.

The AVP Operations will be the primary point of contact for assigned lines of Business and serve as both a team leader and individual contributor and collaborator on the creation, analysis, updating and documentation of workflows, roles and responsibilities, communications and training materials. The individual will lead a team of direct reports, providing training, oversight and guidance on complex projects. The individual will be required to engage and collaborate with HO Underwriting, OGC-Product Services, IT, L&D and Field & HO Operations during the product analysis/design phases to provide assessment of the potential impact to the field of product changes. The AVP Operations will be accountable for business readiness or “RUN” components of the operation. Coordination, communication and partnership with these areas are a key factor to the success of the Commercial Operations team and business directives.

Major Functional Responsibilities

• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Commercial systems, processes and lines of business including the development of workflows and associates roles and responsibilities. Strong understanding of systems and data flows for “end to end” policy processing in the emerging integrated policy administration and downstream reporting systems

• Engage resources from across CI Service Units as needed to support key project deliverables and integration

• Serve as an advocate for the field and underwriting and partner with others to develop solutions that improve efficiency and productivity.

• Ensure product and Underwriting changes are documented and translated into all operations and processes

• Responsible for analyzing business requirements documentation for potential process changes; and for translating these requirements into workflow, role/responsibility and/or procedural changes.

• Responsible for the procedural documentation of workflows, training and field communication content as a result of system/product changes, new system or products and strategic initiatives or as a result of specific branch requests for all assigned Lines of Business. Develops and documents branch staff impact. Responsible for clearly articulating field impact to LOB partners, in order to ensure the most efficient process is built to support business work efforts.

• Analyzes and resolves escalated HO Underwriting and Branch problems, coordinating associated activity through various areas if needed, providing the Branch with a timely resolution or update.

• Works with the Branch Resource Center Manager to analyze trends related to assigned lines of business, recommends action steps and facilitates needed improvements. Develops training/procedural content to address knowledge or procedural gaps.

• As part of coordinating system deployments, responsible for monitoring system performance and branch related problems, escalating problems to IT, Product Delivery and/or others for expedited resolution; responsible for providing solutions to Branches regarding processing problems, larger or complex account processing, and other unique processing requirements.

• Engage resources from across CI Service Units as needed to support key project deliverables and integration

• Act as a Project Leader on larger product deployments spanning Commercial Operations and/or across Operations.

• Effectively manage team of employees and provide ongoing coaching to help employees to enhance their strengths and achieve success


• Commercial Operations experience or equivalent.

• Experience managing a team.

• Strong knowledge of field organization and integration of systems into Branch processes.

• Strong knowledge of Commercial insurance products, transaction processing flow, and systems functionality.

• Experience and demonstrated skill in designing and documenting processes and workflows and in developing communications and training materials.

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to achieve results within and across diverse organizational units and disciplines.

• Good negotiation skills with ability to influence the priorities and actions of other people and departments.

• Strong sense of individual ownership and accountability.

• Ability to multitask many projects and responsibilities to ensure progress is being to meet the business needs.
