  • Pearson Online & Blended Learning partners with independent Charter School Boards across the country who govern Virtual Charter Schools. The Charter schools are governed by an independent Board of Directors and Pearson Online & Blended Learning provides various services to support the Board of Directors. The Board Relations Specialist will manage this important part of Pearson Online & Blended Learnings operations.The Board Relations Specialist will develop and maintain Board members, school leaders, sponsors and Board Counsels relationships in each state assigned to the position. The Board Relations Specialist will report to the Director of Board Relations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the support of partnering school Boards. This includes drafting meeting agendas and minutes, preparing and disseminating Board packages, complying with all necessary legal posting requirements, corresponding with Board members, attending Board meetings (usually by phone), tracking deliverables and documents for meetings and maintaining minute books and other Board records and documentation;

  • Develop and implement state-specific on-site Board training for governing partnering Boards;

  • Assist with the schools’ annual audits;

  • Manage the resolution of governance-related matters and act as a liaison with the school, Pearson Online & Blended Learning management and Board of Directors, including routine site visits and state training attendance;

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Board members of partnering Boards;

  • Coordinate state and national training opportunities for Board members, acting as primary liaison for all vendors, event planners and Board members at trainings;

  • Provide strategic direction to internal stakeholders based on Board member feedback;

  • Maintain a Board Relations Department public drive file maintenance system;

  • Develop a working knowledge of colleague assigned Boards and fill in/cover when needed

  • In collaboration with compliance, draft Board policies and correspondence as required by law; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelors degree; education in Law, Paralegal Studies, Public Relations and/or Business preferred

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience

  • Experience working with Board of Directors and in drafting minutes, preparing agendas, maintaining minutes books and attending meetings preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

  • Team player track record

  • Extremely detail-oriented, efficient and able to multi-task

  • Ability to travel occasionally

  • Strong proficiency in technology including, Microsoft Office applications especially in Word & Excel, Google (calendar/Gmail/docs/sheets), and Adobe preferred
