CIO – Intelligent Process Automation (IPA)

The CIO for Chubb’s IPA program will be responsible for building and leading the IPA technology team to ensure the delivery of high-quality reliable, robust, and scalable solutions.This leader will lead and engage with stakeholders to develop the technical vision and strategy for Chubb’s IPA roadmap.

Within this role she/he will partner with the IPACenter of Competency(CoC),EPMO, Finance, IT, automation partners and system integrators, and internal customersincluding executives todeliver process simplification and business optimization through the use of a hybrid of solutions that include automation technologies (intelligent bots), Process automation using BPM technologies, advanced solutions using Machine Learning and other cognitive capabilities. Ideal candidate will have prior experience as a Technology Leader with a background in software engineering.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience as CIO for the implementation of
IPA initiatives along with the following key criteria:

  • Experience of working with large transformation programs, delivering to tight timescales, within budget while maintaining quality
  • Successful planning and delivery of large and complex automation programs, delivering significant business transformation benefits
  • Knowledge and experience of managing technology change in complex multi-line business organizations
  • Experience of working with Executives, business unit CIOs, architects and technology leaders on automation initiatives and their impact to technology environments globally.
  • Experience in building proactive system monitoring capabilities
  • Experience in maintenance and change management of solutions
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment and driving clarity among various stakeholders

Key focus areas include

  • Overall responsibility for IPA, including managing the platforms and technical team, planning, resourcing, budgeting, and socializing capabilities
  • Lead a team responsible to work both independently and collaboratively with partners to design and develop best of breed Automation Solutions and Architecture
  • Establish the IPA IT organization’s technical vision and closely monitor the initiatives and progress updates within Chubb for IPA projects
  • Lead the design, specification and selection of appropriate technology solutions, giving due consideration to functionality, data, security, integration, cloud technologies, infrastructure and performance driving the adoption of best practices on coding, design, quality and performance
  • Keep abreast of industry developments, especially in the IPA space and serve as the subject matter expert and champion
  • Manage vendor relationships and keep abreast of vendor product plans, upgrades, future features, risks, and issues
  • Day-to-day IPA Technology operations including support, managing onshore and offshore teams and third-party providers supporting the program.


  • Establish competencies, processes and standards that support process automation solutions and applications
  • Ensure that IPA solutions comply with Chubb’s policies and industry best practices
  • Lead teams responsible for Bot and ML deployment, including the architecture of the Cloud environment
  • Work collaboratively with IPA CoC to set the Automation Strategy and provide technical perspectives in formulating future automation plans
  • Define SLAs and monitor; track IPA utilization and identify opportunities for improvement. Investigate, analyze, and resolve problems with IPA production automation/bots
  • Estimate costs and prepare business cases for IT solutions, giving due consideration to infrastructure, licensing, development and support
  • Work with the IPA CoC teams to develop high level project schedules and resource allocation for implementations
  • Manage and lead the IPA Technical teams responsible for day-to-day operations and support, development/test/release of new automations; problem-solve issues that arise providing timely responses and solutions as required
  • Ensure team (internal and/or System integrators) deliver code within the context of an agile development team effort
  • Manage technology obsolescence and vendor risks
  • Lead, manage and grow the IPA technical teams and all vendor arrangements as the program matures and volume of automations running and in development increase over time
  • Provide scalable solutions that are scalable, resilient and manageable
  • Establish architectural standards and ensure compliance to the standards
  • Partner with the Domain IT teams to ensure a coordinated delivery of IPA automations in alignment with system implementation protocols
  • Manage vendor partner relationships
  • Have the ability to work in a demanding and fluid environment
  • Recruit, manage and grow technical talent
