JOB SUMMARY: A senior level underwriter with strong knowledge of E&S homeowners marketspace with particular emphasis in the catastrophe exposes states. Responsible for underwriting referrals that exceed wholesalers’ authority due to the risk complexity, managing underwriting guidelines and monitoring relevant pricing and product trends.
Duties may include but are not limited to: * Develop underwriting rules to make underwriting process more efficient and work with the IT colleagues to implement them * Identify market trends and make actionable recommendations to Westchester leadership regarding pricing, product and underwriting * Develop and effectively execute business plans in conjunction with Business Development colleagues * Approve account referrals that fall outside the wholesales’ authority that includes selecting, declining or engineering risks that reinforce our underwriting appetite * Document the underwriting files * Book management including analysis of results to identify distributor specific and territory trends * Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned distribution partners to meet or exceed financial objectives * Adhere to disciplined underwriting process to ensure consistent execution of underwriting strategies, best practices in terms of documentation of thought process and underwriting authority * Meet service standards established within Westchester Binding * Work with catastrophe modelers to monitor risk accumulations. Recommend and implement necessary changes to guidelines * Candidate must be able to effectively collaborate and interact with Wholesalers, Business Development, Risk Consulting, and Operations
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required * 3 – 5 years of personal or commercial lines underwriting experience
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience underwriting E&S homeowners insurance * Knowledge of insurance industry
COMPETENCIES * Ability to make thoughtful risk selection, risk engineering and pricing decisions for catastrophe exposed homes * Analytical, data-driven, fact-based decision making that is deliberate and thoughtful * Demonstrated technical, business, product and E&S market knowledge * Ability to identify critical success factors to accomplish desired results and develop plans to achieve them * Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, negotiation, and marketing skills * Ability to foster high collaboration internally and externally constantly acting and thinking “One Chubb” * Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software
