Combined Insurance SVP & Actuary in United States

The Senior Vice President & Actuary is responsible for leading the actuarial, business intelligence, and advanced analytics staff for Global Claims. This position will work with Claims senior leaders to establish strategies to empower Claims professionals with actionable intelligence, and owns their delivery. This role is based in our Basking Ridge, NJ office and reports to the Global Chief Claim Officer with matrix reporting into the Global Chief Actuary.


  • Work with Claims leadership to set and implement Claims Actuarial, Business Intelligence, and Advanced Analytics strategies that generate business value, economic benefits, and competitive advantage

  • Lead team of 20 people, including setting and tracking priorities, delegation/coordination of assignments, efficient workflows, and ensuring on-time and quality delivery

  • Serve as product manager of 6-8 cross-functional agile release teams to successfully execute these strategies.

  • Lead biweekly Catastrophe reporting, including timely and well-reasoned projections and report preparation for executive management, Underwriting, Finance and Actuarial.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly updates on claims trends and performance metrics for senior Claims, Underwriting, and Actuarial leadership.

  • Partner with Claim managers to analyze and communicate key results, trends and changes to Actuarial and Underwriting business partners.

  • Identify and investigate key Claims issues on behalf of Chubb management, and recommend or decide on a practical resolution.

  • Take leadership roles in Claims strategic initiatives, leveraging actuarial and business expertise to inject appropriate evaluation methodologies, and preparing and presenting formal business cases and project updates

  • Evaluate measures and analytics to continuously improve the analysis of claims trends, inventory management, litigation management, claim outcome, efficiency, reserving practices and customer service.

  • Oversee development of training and implementation plans for new analytics and business intelligence tools, and ensure robust measurement framework to evaluate the business value/return from the analytic solutions.

  • Foster data integrity. Serve as business owner of claims data efforts.

  • Ensure professionalism and adherence to actuarial principles and Company practices

  • Encourage continuous learning and career development of staff Additional Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an in-depth understanding of business process and products globally across Claims and IT and establish strong working relationships with business leaders, functional counterparts and vendors.

  • Build and maintain a strong understanding of major industry trends

  • Champion R&D investment in the latest analytics technologies

  • Deliver effective communications to executive leadership, underwriting, actuarial, brokers, clients, internal and external auditors, and industry and corporate events.

  • Identify and advance synergies between Actuarial, BI, and Analytics tools to drive cohesive and intuitive experience for the collective applications.

  • Share/leverage successful analytic products, processes and practices across the Chubb enterprise.

  • Ensure documentation is thorough, captured appropriately, meets best practices and compliance standards and is easily assessable to the team members. Skills/Experience:

  • Demonstrated actuarial proficiency with property & casualty insurance pricing and/or reserving practices via significant prior work experience (12 years; ACAS/FCAS)

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage and motivate team

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative analysis skills, including business case development and ROI modeling and measurement

  • Strong executive presence, and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Business acumen, vision, and strategic thinking

  • Integrity, objectivity, and self-confidence

  • Ability to project influence and affect outcomes, generate enthusiasm, and drive cross-team collaboration
