Position Overview

The Vice President, Claims will be responsible for driving operational and executional excellence within the Combined Insurance Claims organization. This Head of Claims role is accountable for the strategy; delivering results while leading, coaching, and developing employees; and leading an efficient and effective Claims operation through ensuring a best practice operating model design, end-to-end process management, and technology. This person will continue to develop and lead claims-wide shared services that includes a strong vendor management component. He/she will also play a critical leadership role in driving the implementation and change management agenda for Claims Strategic Initiatives, supporting a high performance culture, process transformation, and customer focus. This role has oversight of both the US and Canadian Claims organizations.

The position leads a team of approximately 65-70 claims technical professionals, with 3-4 claims leaders as direct reports.

The VP Claims role is a heavily matrixed position with key stakeholders and partners within the parent company of Chubb, working closely with the SVP, Head of Operations and IT, and the SVP-Sales Leaders. The role reports directly into the President of Combined Insurance and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

§ Management of the Combined Insurance Claims organization, providing executive claims leadership, direction, and support across the function.

§ Develop and implement strategies for the Claims Target Operating model including handling of claims to ensure the delivery of service and operational excellence. This includes contingency, workforce, and other plans.

§ Actively negotiate and manage vendor services as appropriate to servicing Combined claims. Includes being accountable for external Claims vendor management—contracts and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) being met.

§ Oversight of talent management, budgets, performance reviews, training, staff development, and performance improvement.

§ Direct and indirect handling of, or involvement in, the resolution of high severity complex claims, including high exposure determinations.

§ Communicate, influence, and engage across the matrix, with Operations, IT, Underwriting, Actuarial, Marketing, Finance, Sales, Chubb Claims, etc. to keep them informed of important matters and partner on strategic initiatives.

§ Keep a detailed watch on metrics, people, process, and technology to ensure Claims trends are addressed and risks mitigated for seamless service and operations.

§ Maintain team Claim file quality, execute Claims best practices, and ensure Claims regulatory compliance.

§ Provide proactive and progressive solutions to anticipated and unanticipated business needs by considering the total picture of the impacts and outcomes, as well as dependencies.

§ Act as a change leader, championing an environment that promotes continuous improvement, best practices, customer focus, and operational excellence.

§ Shape a high performance environment; assesses existing employees’ skills and competencies ensuring talent is aligned with the go-forward business strategies; holds people accountable while retaining and energizing talent to ensure employees have the capability to thrive in the company’s culture.

§ Leverage the use of technology and implements best practices to support the strategic vision. Coordinates and collaborates with IT on the evaluation of technology vendors, digital tools, and fulfillment.

§ Actively manage financial and regulatory controls including ongoing process certifications, auditing of claims adjudication process execution through a process ownership model that designs and controls for process (including people and technology).

§ Liaise with North American and Global Claims to share and receive best practices that align with Chubb’s Claim-branded experience.

Qualifications

§ Progressive in-depth Claims experience 15 years

§ Bachelor’s degree

§ Strong proven leadership and management skills

§ Has a strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze metrics, summarize, and present with the intention of informing and influencing

§ Executive presence

§ Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

§ Thorough knowledge of the Claims operations, processes, and payment outcomes

§ A&H or other health-related insurance experience

§ Strong vendor management skills

§ Strong financial acumen related to Claims impact on profitability

§ Experience in working in a highly matrixed environment
