What you’ll be doing...

The Technology and Supplier Strategy team is a part of the Corporate Network & Technology organization. This organization is principally focused on developing next-generation technology strategies, identifying and partnering with strategic suppliers to enable Verizon's technology strategy and driving architecture efforts across Verizon's Technology organization.

The DMTS - Next Generation Network Technology & Supplier Strategy will lead efforts to develop an understanding of Verizon’s current network infrastructure technologies as well as where Verizon needs to invest (via capital and partnerships) to drive their disruptive transformation. He / she will use their expertise of the technology landscape to inform Verizon on the key players, the disruptors and their competitors in order to drive meaningful strategic decisions. This technical lead will focus on diversifying and driving cost efficiencies within Verizon’s infrastructure vendor and technology portfolio by bringing in new, disruptive and forward-thinking partners.

A qualified candidate would need to exhibit significant experience across the following areas:

  • A deep understanding of Verizon wireline & wireless network infrastructure, operations workflow, procedures and rules of engagement

  • Develop a diversified set of suppliers for Verizon’s IT and Network technology needs to accelerate the technology transformation, enable new revenue streams and reduce cost structures.

  • Identify disruptors in each respective network technology segment that Verizon operates in and gain understanding of their ability to meet Verizon’s needs.

  • Strategically partner with the vendors, VC’s, startups and broader supplier community to develop healthy pipeline of companies, while working with innovation lab teams to incubate and accelerate potential solutions to meet Verizon technology requirements.

  • Drive integration of new commercial infrastructure suppliers with existing partners through the preliminary assessments. Influence new software delivery models like micro services, agile methodologies, roadmaps driving change.

  • Support the development of detailed business cases for next generation infrastructure disruptors that includes competitive analysis and total cost of ownership of technology. Once selected assist in on boarding of the technology/strategy in coordination with various internal departments.

  • Strategically utilize research and analytics of the external environment to understand market dynamics; trends; size; segmentation; customer needs; applicable emerging technologies; and the competitive landscape to Identify new technologies for application areas such as 5G, IOT, OneNetwork, Next Gen Broadband, Fixed Wireless, Video Delivery and AR/VR

  • Lead a cross-functional multi-disciplined team to embody a culture that drives innovation and strategic growth, taking calculated risks, while cultivating and promoting a highly collaborative development environment; actively mentoring individuals and teams

  • This position will need to interface extensively and partner effectively with many functions within the various Verizon business units including IT & Network internal and external system architects, HQ planning teams, product line managers, Maintenance Engineering, Sourcing, DevOps leads, Executive Management and a variety of other business and technical organizations spanning Verizon's enterprise.

What we’re looking for...

  • 10+ years of wireline, wireless telecommunications, Network and IT industry experience required

  • 7+ years of Verizon operations / maintenance engineering /network engineering / technology development & planning experience

  • Bachelor’s degree - Electrical / Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications or w/ appropriate work experience

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s Degree, MBA, Industry Certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Linux, Openstack, Microsoft, EMC, CISSP, etc.…) Preferred

  • Proven experience with assessing and leading current Verizon technologies, suppliers, challenges and new emerging architectures and network concepts needed to drive transformation in a Tier 1 carrier network.

  • In depth understanding the competitive landscape and demonstrate a firm understanding of the upcoming technology marketplace

  • Experience managing confidential data and driving vendor roadmap / open source feature development

  • Excellent communications, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, presentation and multi-objective skills are required

  • Hands on knowledge and Subject Matter Expertise in wireless IP networking, routing & switching, mobile technologies / markets, Radio Access Networks, LTE Evolved Packet Core, IP Multimedia Subsystem, application traffic flows, and Security best practices

  • Substantial understanding in wireless and broadband technology standards (e.g. 3GPP, MPLS, BGP, VXLAN, SRv6, DOCSIS, ETSI MANO) and application / Infrastructure virtualization within a service provider network

  • Experience in SDN, NFV, Openstack, Docker, Container deployments as well as the MANO / FCAPS model to support Service level orchestration and assurance

  • Excels in leading, engaging and influencing large cross functional projects and teams

  • Proven track record to develop relationships with next generation and disruptive partner, drive feature roadmaps, meet deadlines and to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

  • Critical thinker with strong analytical problem solving skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail, with results-oriented focus

  • Experience in Leading / Organizing internal and peer team members and providing Executive level updates as needed

  • Laser focus on building a best-in-class technology supplier organization. Does what is necessary to improve delivery; balances the resources necessary to produce desired outcomes; tracks and monitors performance.
