TheControl Technicianperforms maintenance, testing, and repairs on all electronic, electrical, and pneumatic control systems relating to refrigeration and HVAC systems.
Installs, repairs, maintains and adjusts refrigeration and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition. Such control systems include, but are not limited to, line and control relays, transformers, LCD displays, direct digital controllers, thermostats, humidistats, water booster stations, sewage lift stations, and fire suppression systems.
Disassembles malfunctioning instruments and examines and tests mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
Troubleshoots equipment in or out of control system and replaces or repairs defective parts.
Reassembles instrument and test assembly for conformance with specifications.
Inspects instruments periodically and makes minor calibration adjustments to ensure functioning within specified standards.
May adjust and repair final control mechanisms, such as automatically controlled valves and positioners.
May calibrate instruments according to established standards.
Performs other duties as assigned and if qualified.
Knowledge & Skills
Proficiency with hand tools and precision instruments.
Familiarity with test equipment or instruments, such as potentiometers, resistance bridge, manometer, and pressure gauges.
Ability to read and interpret instructions such as operating and maintenance manuals and diagrams.
Good written communications skills in order to produce reports and other documentation.
Knowledge of safe work practices and lockout/tag out procedures.
Experience & Education
High school degree or equivalent.
Must possess a state-issued journeyman’s HVAC license for the site location.
Control system certification required or desirable, depending on site.
Minimum of four years’ experience in controls systems operation and maintenance, or a combination of equivalent education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Eligibility for a TS clearance may be required, depending on the site.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Ability to lift tools and supplies of varying weights, up to 50 pounds.
May require standing for long periods, working in cramped spaces, and/or working in hot or cold conditions.
