Job Summary

Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs new and existing pipe systems and equipment that includes plumbing.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for assembling and installing pipe systems, pipe supports, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

  • Install pipe for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial production and processing systems.

  • Configure pipe system layout.

  • Coordinate proper pipes and other materials.

  • Select supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders.

  • Cut, thread, and hammer pipes according to pipe system specs.

  • Use saws and cutting torches to craft proper pipe sizes.

  • Turn off steam, water, or gas from pipe section.

  • Secure pipes to walls, radiators, tanks, and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and test piping systems and equipment for proper circulation, flow, pressure and leak-free joints

  • Repair cracks and leaks and maintain pipe systems and components.

  • Resolve problems such as obstructions or holes.

  • Dip nonferrous piping materials in molten tin and lead to prevent galvanic corrosion.

  • Remove water from flooded areas.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to use a variety of tools and read blueprints

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues

  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments

  • Knowledge of safety standards and general experience in dealing with environmental issues

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a pipefitter apprentice; state-issued journeyman plumber‘s license preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Able to maneuver in small spaces and lift up to 50lbs.
