Eaton Corporation Controls Engineer in Waukesha, Wisconsin

Eaton’s Power Delivery Division is seeking a Controls Engineer to be based out of our Waukesha, WI facility.

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of this position is the design of high quality Regulator products at minimum cost while meeting or exceeding internal and external customer requirements and expectations. Design focus will be on control assemblies and interfaces with apparatus but could involve general apparatus as well when needed.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create simple to high complexity custom Regulator product designs in accordance with established practices and industry and company standards.

  • Create detailed layouts, bills of material, detail/assembly and customer approval drawings.

  • Meet ETO (Engineer to Order) design OTTC and error level metrics.

  • Execute Engineering Product Definition Data (PDD) changes via formal Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process. Review Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and/or Change/Hold/Cancellation Requests (CHCs).

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Proposals by reviewing specifications to understand customer requirements. Enforce product scopes and out of scope process.

  • Provide technical support to Marketing regarding sales inquiries, product scopes and exclusions, customer problems, equipment application and engineering analysis.

  • Estimate cost and design effort for new products and systems.

  • Provide technical support to and maintain liaison with Scheduling, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Control, Quality Assurance, and Operations regarding issues with custom designs.

  • Support Manufacturing Engineering and Operators to achieve OTTC metrics with successful production and testing of new custom designs.

  • Drive root cause analysis and resolution of customer complaints and material non-conformance issues.

  • Make recommendations and support product and process improvements, help define and implement improvement projects to increase team efficiency.

  • Work with 3rd party control vendors regarding product definition data, product capabilities, FW and HW design and enhancements, proper use with Eaton Voltage Regulators, and production, test or field issues.

  • Develop and document design rules for custom Regulator products and controls. Assist with design automation validation.

  • Contribute ideas for Value Add/Value Engineering (VA/VE) projects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution to be completed no later than June 2018.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

  • No relocation is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within a 50 mile radius of the Waukesha, WI facility will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with custom engineering design and processes

  • Experience in creating, loading, and storing engineering designs within an ERP system, preferably SAP

  • Design experience with or knowledge of controls systems – embedded controls, control testing, SCADA, communications

Position Criteria:

  • Ability to excel as a team player by successfully collaborating with engineering peers as well as cross-functional personnel to ensure custom designs meet customer expectations

  • Knowledge of power systems, voltage regulator or distribution/power transformer products/applications, and/or industrial automation/controls

  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of CAD (2D and 3D) tools with mechanical or electromechanical systems

  • Knowledge of industry recognized drafting and CAD standards, practices and procedures
