What is a Product Manager?

A product manager serves as the thought leader and owner of their product area. The product manager is responsible for defining and prioritizing the deliverables that the product manager’s engineering team will work on. The product manager will need to consider the needs and desires provided by different stakeholders including: clients, product strategy, sales, engineering and management. At the same time the product manager must also consider the current market dynamics including: competition, new verticals/opportunities, and the emergence of new technologies (e.g., IoT, machine learning) that may be competitive and/or complementary to the existing product.

What is Logistics?

Logistics is a key part of the supply chain and is involved with all the activities associated with bringing goods to market. This Product Management position will be within the team that is involved with the Transportation and Global Trade Management product. Transportation Management deals with all aspects of managing the movement of goods – from planning and executing freight movements to tracking, monitoring and financial accounting. Global Trade Management deals with all the aspects of regulatory compliance associated with moving goods across international borders.

What does a Logistics Product Manager do?

As a member of the Logistics Product Management team, you will help execute the product vision, manage the product roadmap and ensure the evolution of Oracle’s Logistics Cloud consisting of Oracle’s Transportation Management Cloud (OTM) and Global Trade Management Cloud (GTM) product offerings. This will require you to understand business needs of customers, keep abreast of new trends and innovation, educate internal and external teams on product capabilities, and act internally and externally as a product champion. You will be need to learn and understand and then guide the development of Oracle’s products to ensure that the technical roadmap for Oracles cloud products evolves in a way that continues to improve all aspects of a Cloud customer’s experience.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Work as part of a team that acts as the central resource and driving force for the design, process, manufacturing, test, quality and marketing of product(s) as they move from conception to distribution. Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget.

As a member of the product development division, you will define product specifications and or strategy. Gather and analyze information to define product specifications and review design specifications. Communicate product strategy and functionality. Initiate and foster relationships with other groups. Review product documentation and collateral. Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex, needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
