The CLG team includes Home Lending, Consumer Credit Card, Personal Loans and Lines, Direct Auto, Dealer Services, Commercial Auto, Retail Services and Education Financial Services including the professional services teams that partner with these businesses - Human Resources, Finance, Credit Risk, and Compliance & Operational Risk.

Our Consumer Lending Group Finance organization Controller Group is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting functions for CLG, including SEC and Regulatory Reporting, as well as, all related internal control activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting to investors, creditors, management, and regulators.

The CLG team is seeking a motivated professional to join the real estate secured held for investment (HFI) portfolio accounting team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the requirements of HFI portfolio and have solid experience in loan accounting. This position will be primarily responsible for loan charge-off accounting and will be significantly involved in the monthly closing process and monthly and quarterly SEC and Regulatory reporting for mortgage related accounts. This role will also be a team leader in special projects to integrate and enhance current systems and processes. Experience with control environment process analyses is desired.

This position will also be responsible for preparing and analyzing accounting trends, implementing new accounting policies, identifying and implementing process improvements, creating robust accounting analyses and working with other complex accounting issues, as requested. Attention to detail is critical in this role due to the importance placed on accurate monthly/quarterly reporting by both internal partners as well as external regulators. Excellent organizational skills are needed as there are multiple deliverables that occur at the same time, necessitating the ability to multi-task. At the same time, certain ad-hoc requirements may change responsibilities with little warning, thus the role requires strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting; or a BS/BA or higher in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or Business and 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting

Desired Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of financial analysis experience

  • Big four public accounting experience

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem solving techniques

  • Ability to take on a high level of responsibility, initiative, and accountability

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles: statutory and GAAP

  • Knowledge and understanding of consumer lending or real estate finance environment

  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance requirements surrounding SOX Sarbanes-Oxley Act

  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory reporting: Federal Reserve, OCC, and SEC

  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills

  • Strong accounting skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • An active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation

  • Advanced problem solving and technical troubleshooting capabilities
