Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Agronomic Research Specialist with the ability to work as part of a Global Seed Production (GSP) Team in Williamsburg IA. The Agronomic Research Specialist will participate in all aspects in the production of seed. The individual will have the opportunity to assist in all phases of nursery seed production including seed packaging, planting, pollination, plot maintenance, volunteer monitoring, data collection, and harvest of nursery. Additional responsibilities include supervision and training of temporary employees, active participation in site safety and QMS programs, and interacting on a professional level with personnel at other GSP sites, including breeders and scientists. Assist in the coordination/supervision of day-to-day GSP activities, including planting, note taking, plot maintenance, harvesting, seed processing, inventory management and distribution.
Support Nursery Lead in forecasting, prioritization and capacity management of the above operations.
Utilization of research equipment such as planters, combines, seed conditioners and hand-held devices.
Identifies and implements operational improvements, metrics tracking and best practices and participates in related networks for cross sharing
Interaction with scientists and breeders on and off site for project and protocol execution.
Perform safety inspections, and assist in providing safety training and guidance to personnel.
Recruit/Supervise and train temporary employees
Participate with the team to successfully maintain the Quality Management Standards
Assist in other projects and perform other duties as and when required
Occasional overnight travel for 2-3 day periods for training and other meetings are likely during the year
Required Education and Skills/Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Industrial Technology, Supply Chain Management or a related field
At least 2-3 years of relevant field research experience from industry or academia
Ability to work extended hours during the peak planting, pollinating and harvest seasons
Experience utilizing MS Office Suite
Familiarity with mobile technology and applications used in agriculture
Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Desired Education and Skills/Experience:
Master's Degree in Agriculture or a related field
Familiarity with breeding methodologies
Broad knowledge of crop production practices
Class A CDL (or ability to obtain)
Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain)
Knowledge of precision agriculture
