The Canadian Pacific Police Service (CPPS) is a multi-jurisdictional, federal railway police agency with an establishment of sworn members and civilian support personnel. The Service has operations in six Canadian Provinces and eleven U.S. States. In Canada, CPPS members are federally legislated pursuant to the Railway Safety Act and have full police officer status and the authority to enforce all the provisions of the Criminal Code including Provincial statutes. In the United States, members have police officer status granted by the individual States and are granted full inter-state authority. The CPPS has its headquarters in Calgary, Alberta.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
We are seeking an experienced Canadian police officer to become the District Inspector for Saskatchewan, Manitoba & Northern Ontario based out of Winnipeg, MB. This position will have responsibility for the leadership, management and direction of police operations in these areas. This is a uniformed position & you will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Police - Operations Canada, located in Calgary, AB.
Management and daily supervision of:
Sworn & unionized police officers (Sergeants and Constables)
Education Programs (both public and internal)
Operational command of special events and major incidents including major derailments;
Performance management auditing to ensure compliance with internal and external partners;
Represent the Service on external committees and associations;
Perform all duties, as carried out by a federally sworn police officer through enforcement of appropriate Municipal, Provincial & Federal laws;
Must be flexible outside of regular work hours to meet the operational needs of the Service;
Must be able to meet CPPS Firearms and Use of Force Standards annually;
Significant travel may be required within Canada.
Must be a Canadian Citizen;
10 years of policing, or related experience including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role;
Must have an in-depth understanding of the Canadian Criminal Code and the Canadian Criminal Justice system;
Strong leadership ability (able to direct, coach and provide feedback);
Demonstrated ability to deal with highly confidential information;
Must have a working knowledge of ICS (Incident Command System – Canada);
Ability to obtain a Level 3 security clearance from Transport Canada;
Must be qualified in First Aid, CPR and AED;
As this position is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position a pre-employment medical must be completed.
