This position will provide strategic engineering and maintenance leadership in support of a large, multi-product lean manufacturing and distribution plant environment. Responsible for production line design, acquisition, implementation and improvement, as well as capital projects both facility and production related. Responsible for the development and tracking of budgets for department activities along with capital forecasts for future facility needs.
Responsible at all times for promoting a safety culture and awareness within area of responsibility. Support and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner. Prepares and controls budgets for engineering and maintenance department including capital forecasts for projects supporting manufacturing and facilities needs. Promotes active leadership in the implementation of plant wide lean manufacturing efforts and TPS, integrating lean manufacturing disciplines in engineering and maintenance department. Responsible for tracking favorably to all department KPI’s (key performance indicators) such as PM completion, tool crib cycle counts, inventory turns, etc. Supervises and determines workload and priority for plant engineering and maintenance staff. Supports upkeep and maintenance of plant and infrastructure issues and areas of concern. Responsible for identifying, prioritizing and addressing all plant maintenance issues via MES (manufacturing execution systems). Works with Operations Management in support of OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) goals and improvements. Supports Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training/orientation for maintenance and technical manufacturing staff. Provides leadership and expertise on all plant issues dealing with environmental, maintenance and engineering factors. Proven ability to work with process improvement, problem resolution, and project management and employee development. Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages. Direct supervision of Technical Department, including plant engineers, maintenance staff and associated direct reports. Maintain a competent staff through selection, training, development, motivation and performance management. Creation and execution of annual goals/objectives and performance feedback sessions. Responsible for keeping current with technical changes and innovation - is the key person to bring these external ideas into the operation. As a Leadership Team member for the Site, work in conjunction with plant leadership to provide direction and guidance to the facility. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization Excellent communications skills – ability to communicate clearly and concisely in multiple media – verbal, written, etc. Excellent organizational/time management/prioritization skills. In-depth technical knowledge of liquid filling, labeling and packaging processes along with chemical liquid batching processes, dry powder filling and manufacturing to 21CFR Part 111 standards. Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced work environment. Solid critical thinking skills and ability to create new, innovative ways to handle situations. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles including Six Sigma, 5S, TPS, etc. Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, MS Project, CMMS and SAP). Working knowledge of SAP Maintenance Module and AutoCAD a plus. Ability to analyze data and make appropriate recommendations. Solid understanding of OEE, OTIF, SMED improvement programs. Familiarity with quality management systems, GMP’s and/or validation through advanced training. Strong knowledge of production operation, including equipment, materials, work flow, etc. Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality at all times and in all situations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or related field preferred. 7-10 years previous technical department management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment preferred. Experience in CPG and/or FDA-regulated manufacturing industry a plus. Food manufacturing experience a plus, knowledge of confectionary, dietary supplement or gummy vitamin manufacturing a plus.
