What you’ll be doing...

The Director will lead a team of highly specialized resources setting Public Sector strategy for government-wide acquisition across Federal Civilian; Federal DOD; Intel; and, State, Local, and Education (SLED). The Director will lead a team that creates viable, competitively bid contract vehicles that cover all six Public Sector segments across all geographies for all directional products and services that align to Public Sector’s strategy and growth aspiration.

The Director and their team will align Verizon Public Sector’s winning aspiration and strategy to strategic contracts and identify and pursue these new contracts to drive new sources of revenue from both new products and/or new customers and agencies. The team will also coordinate across a series of consultants and lobbyists that Public Sector funds to advocate for procurement changes, funding for specific programs, and position Verizon as a leader in key growth areas. This team will work with Product, GTS, and Marketing to enable these contracts in our systems, with products that meet the requirements of the government, and with marketing campaigns to drive customer awareness of the availability of Verizon’s services on competitively bid and government authorized contracts.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Contract strategy alignment and identification
    • Establish selection criteria for contracts that achieve the Public Sector winning aspiration and strategic objectives in the markets where Public Sector has decided to play
    • Define the specific contracts based on criteria in each of the six Public Sector segments, ensuring geographic diversity
    • Develop the commercial model for each contract ensuring that our target contracts can be supported
    • Evaluate contract results against the strategic objectives and revenue growth targets for each contract based on performance; continuously evaluate contract selection
    • Develop lobbying strategy across targeted lobbyists to ensure that procurement lobbying goals are met
  • Contract Go-To-Market
    • Ensure appropriate mix of contracts that support all segments in all geographies across all Verizon products
    • Build go-to-market plans for each contract so that Verizon stakeholders have a clear understanding of the end customer value proposition and the commercial model where teams clearly understand roles and responsibilities
    • Develop contract compliance program to ensure that when we commit to certain requirements within a contract and that those requirements are regularly trained, governed, and audited
    • Co-develop marketing strategies for contract-based marketing in coordination with government contracting officers
  • Contract Enablement and Support
    • Conduct intake of new contracts to build out capabilities and their application to strategic account plans for top accounts
    • Develop requirements for systems enablement of Verizon solutions and capabilities
    • Prioritize development schedules to achieve the greatest sales and revenue results
    • Ensure products that are coming to market are prepped for enablement on each contract
    • Plan for product retirements of end of life products and work proactively with the government on lifecycle management
  • Internal Support
    • Create contract plan at opportunity identification to maximize Verizon’s probability to win by leveraging contract capabilities
    • Educate account teams on contract capabilities, processes, and requirements
    • Maintain contract matrix that clearly lays out what products are available on what contracts for what customers
    • Triage and resolve gaps in contracts where certain products, compliance levels, or other requirements are not available
    • Provide external procurement lobbyist support to address identified gaps

What we’re looking for...

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree strongly desired
  • 8+ years’ work experience, with significant experience working in the Public Sector space; knowledge in government contracts, procurement, and associated FAR/acquisition regulations strongly desired; knowledge of various contracting methods is preferred (i.e., Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and flexible pricing)
  • Experience managing and influencing client relationships at the senior executive level; ability to present and interact with all levels of management
  • Excellent team leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to coach, mentor, and train others within Verizon and have the ability to educate key stakeholders; ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Highly self-motivated, with the ability to motivate others
  • Superior organizational, interpersonal, communication, negotiation, staff development and operations skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, customer and team-oriented work environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Office

This role may be located in other VBG hub locations.
