IBM is seeking an experienced Power Engineer supporting IBM's Mainframe (System z), Storage & Power Systems Brand business in Rochester, MN.You will use your leadership & technical skills to partner with the world's leading suppliers & IBM Development teams to ensure new technologies are qualified to support IBM new product introductions. You will also support IBM Manufacturing, Supplier Manufacturing & Client Care Teams to ensure ongoing support of production productYou will be responsible to manage all aspects of your assigned technology including technology convergence, developing technology roadmaps, qualification, communication of technical specifications, environmental compliance, and resolution of all quality/reliability issues. You will work closely with your Suppliers & IBM Development Teams to qualify products and pro-actively manage quality by driving continuous improvement activities. Some travel, both domestic and international, may be required.The Power Subsystem commodities that the candidate may support are custom Power Supplies, Power Distribution Units, Batteries, Voltage Regulators and other Power related electronics.Job responsibilities include:* External supplier evaluation and selection* Perform process and part qualification activities at external suppliers for Power commodities* Define and establish the qualification test requirements including programming, tester automation, and results analysis* Ensure suppliers are meeting IBM specifications for quality, reliability and functionality* Interface with Development Engineering to ensure optimal design for manufacturability and system level qualification requirements* Work with suppliers to drive quality improvements and cost reductions* Support IBM Manufacturing line quality issues* Perform Failure Analysis (FA) and debug on qualification samples, IBM Manufacturing, and client failures in order to identify short/long term solutions* Conduct root cause analysis and provide effective corrective actions* Develop and review power assembly tests during supplier manufacturing processRequired Technical and Professional Expertise* Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering* A minimum of 10 years of experience in Power Electronics* A minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management* Exposure to Power Assembly supplier manufacturing processes* Demonstrated communication skills in a customer/supplier facing environment* US Citizenship requiredPreferred Technical and Professional Expertise* Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering* Knowledge in LabView programming* Experience in statistical analysis methods* Lean Six-Sigma (LSS) or Design for Excellence (DOX) training* Knowledge of Battery Cell technology* Hands on experience with Power related lab equipmentNoneAbout Business UnitIBM Systems helps IT leaders think differently about their infrastructure.
