What you’ll be doing...

The position is a technical project management role for the VZ Infrastructure Engineering & Support (VIES) organization. The VIES organization is responsible for Verizon’s internal operations, operating systems, tools, compute & storage infrastructure along with disaster recovery, backup and recovery. This role will ensure that the best technical solution, as well as, the most cost-effective solution are selected and deployed while working closely with technical resources across IT. This role is critical to ensuring the successful implementation of strategic infrastructure initiatives.

  • Oversee all aspects of projects that include setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, monitoring and summarizing progress of projects.
  • Analyze deliverables assigned to a given initiative that include the technical and financial requirements for the VIES team.
  • Coordinate and complete projects on time within budget and within scope.
  • Prepare reports for senior leaders on project status.
  • Project manage large scale projects and provide guidance and support to staff members, peers and GTS Leaders.
  • Work across the IT technical team to frame requirements, understand potential risks/opportunities, and evaluate competing alternatives.
  • Assist the team in meeting technical requirements, as well as, financial targets with a solid understanding of the composition of VIES cost elements while balancing GTS infrastructure requirements.
  • Develop concise detailed project plans that tie back to key deliverables and milestones, while keeping track of project timelines.
  • Partner with GTS leaders and teams to ensure accurate tracking/reporting of key initiatives.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.
  • Exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Coordinate multi-tiered, cross functional-departmental staff to keep work streams flowing toward the common goal of the initiative.
  • Utilization of standardized tools keeps all teams in sync and on target.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals.
  • Assist with financial analysis of GTS infrastructure initiatives.
  • Provide support during the annual creation of the expense and capital budgets.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members.
  • Work is accomplished independently and with minimal direction.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's or four of more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with larger IT infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in data center environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • ITIL Foundations v3, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • ITIL Advanced/Intermediate Certification.
  • IT & strong financial business acumen and proven ability to work with IT engineers.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work and interact with multiple levels of management.
  • Results oriented Agile mindset with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to manage multiple critical initiatives at once.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership skills expertise in conflict resolution.
  • Ability to foster relationships and present to C-Levels within the Client Organization.
  • Ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with Confluence, Smart Sheets.
  • Strong skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and G-Suite/ Google.
  • Hardware Experience.
  • Financial Business acumen.
  • Experience/Knowledge of Operating System Standards.
  • Ability to manage and negotiate with vendors for services.
