What you’ll be doing...

We are connecting businesses with their field teams and their fleet of cars in our cutting-edge Verizon Connect group—improving efficiency and enhancing service levels for our business customers. You’ll be managing strategic analysis that will ultimately drive the strategic direction of the Connect Business, you will bring together strategic analysis of our competitors across geographic regions to inform strategic decision making.

Verizon Connect is looking for a Competitive Analysis Planner to join our Business Operations organization. Primary purpose of the Competitive Analysis Planner is to support the Sr. Manager with strategic analysis. This includes market research, scenario planning, and understanding current and future strategies of the competitors.

You need to be a person who is comfortable with competitive analysis frameworks. They need to have a good understanding of competitive trends. They can paint a high resolution picture about what we want to accomplish over the coming years, and can shape the plan that gets us there.

The Competitive Analysis Planner will own the Competitive Assessment analysis that would drive strategic decision making. They will study the industry structure, Connects place in it vs. competitors and be able to anticipate the competitors’ strategies. They will look at the current competitors as well competitors in emerging and adjacent markets. The role requires the person to understand what its competitors care about most, how they perceive their assets and capabilities, and what all this means for their strategies.

This is a hybrid position, the expectation is that you will go into an office once a week. This position can work out of any of the main verizon buildings.

  • Supporting the Sr. Manager on the strategy development process.
  • Analyzing the recent moves of the competitors and what they mean for Connect.
  • Examining adjacent markets, which may be not only attractive segments for growth but also may be places to look out for future competitors.
  • Studying the effects of changing market structures due to innovations of new market entrants.
  • Comparing competing and substitute product(s) and/or service(s) on the basis of market share, sales, distribution methods, economies of scale, and production.
  • Reviewing the financial position, resources, costs, and profitability of the competition and their profit trends.
  • Creating and delivering accurate, high-quality, thoughtfully designed reports and analyses to address operational and strategic questions.
  • Providing forward-looking insights and propose recommendations.
  • Participating in scenario planning and the annual planning process.
  • Managing high visibility strategic projects.

Analytical skills to understand the current situation, opportunity and prioritization. Strong communication, synthesis, and project management skills. A "get things done" mentality. You move fast and you don’t settle for the status quo, always on the hunt for the next big thing. Adept at multitasking, with great attention to detail.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Managed large complex projects involving multiple work streams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of strategic frameworks and good research skills.
  • Financial Acumen.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assimilate a broad range of data, analyzing, and distinctly packaging the information to a variety of audiences, including executive management.
  • Ability to understand the corporate business strategies and apply to the business.
  • Strategic thinking and vision.
  • Relationship building skills that result in a strong network.
  • Ability to advance ideas through different levels in the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively across operating units effectively influencing others.
