What you’ll be doing...

The NEC is a mission-critical data center that supports the Wireless Network Core. As the Sr. Manager responsible for the facility, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility including the building support infrastructure, such as generators, chillers, and power and battery plants as well supporting the teams overseeing the critical network infrastructure supporting our Wireless customers. This role supports the Southlake NEC as well as supporting the Westlake Maintenance Engineering Lab and the LSI Integration Facility. You will coordinate with VCP, VZB, EDN, MTCE and other “customers” whose gear is housed in the facility. You will maintain the highest level of data center availability while working on ways to reduce energy consumption and gain efficiency in facility operations. The optimal candidate will be a self-starter with strong communication skills.

  • Manage a team of Verizon employees and SOW contractors who run this 24x7x365 operation.
  • Work closely with peer NEC building operations teams, NEC building construction and engineering teams and VCP and application owner teams to support 100% uptime of our NEC locations.
  • Coordinate with other building teams to identify operational design improvements and provide guidance on best practices for future equipment selection and deployments.
  • Work with the building engineering team to perform trending analysis on things like energy usage and equipment failure rates.
  • Oversee internal and external teams responsible for preventative maintenance activities on mission critical building infrastructure.
  • Oversee the responsibility of all work in and out of the NEC space including equipment and cabling installs, hardware failure and forensics, building construction projects and the like.
  • Review and approve all methods of procedures and change controls for all work occurring within or around the NEC space and the critical equipment spaces.
  • Work with the internal planning team to support the power, space and overall capacity management of equipment going and coming out of the NEC and associated rooms.
  • Work directly and collaboratively with other Verizon building teams on engineering best practices and RCA analysis results, PM cadence etc.
  • Identify process improvement to save time on infrastructure repair tickets and mean time to repair of equipment. Assist in the development of automation of common issues.
  • Support building administrative duties including physical security, landscaping, people space work assignments, custodial staff and the like.
  • Manage a multi-million dollar capital and expense budget for the facilities relative to growth and capacity related work as well as plant and building expenses. Negotiate and execute maintenance contracts and service agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with all Verizon and governmental related codes and regulations such as OSHA, EH&S, etc.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • Willingness to work overnight hours when needed.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to develop and deploy tools to conduct performance-based analysis that will inform technical and logistical decisions.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Must be able to perform and lead in an evolving technical environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills as a Manager, Supervisor or Team Lead.
  • Strong interpersonal and both written and verbal communications skills. Must be able to work with a cross-functional and geographically disperse set of stakeholders.
  • A sense of urgency and ownership. Serves as an example of our Verizon Credo.
