Job Summary

The CBP Health and Safety Manager (Chief of Safety Manager) will develop, implement, manage and maintain effective
Safety Management System (SMS) for the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) National Aviation Maintenance and
Logistic Services (NAMLS) contract.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Execute Corporate EH&S Director’s strategies that support the
    Company’s business strategies and activities; and developing and maintaining a safety culture that drives continuous
    improvement.
  • Located in the Program Management Office (PMO) the Chief of Safety monitors operations for compliance
    with safety standards at all reporting sites.
  • Responsible for conducting initial and follow-on gap analysis across the
    program in an on-going effort to establish a culture of best practices in environmental, health and safety policies.
  • Establish and chair a Safety and Health Council across the program to gather and disseminate safety information.
  • Oversee Regional Safety Managers in the conduct of monthly safety briefs to Branch and Site Managers.
  • This position will chair and be a key member of the Safety Committee.


Minimum Requirements

  • Eight (8) years progressively responsible experience in related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience leading aircraft maintenance safety organizations with demonstrated results.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and general experience in dealing with environmental issues.
  • Ability to develop and present senior staff-level briefings and management reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement approaches.
  • Experience in implementing management systems standards (ISO 14001, OSHA VPP, FAA SMS)
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Previous experience working on CBP aviation programs desired.
  • Must be a US citizen, possess a US Passport and be able to pass a CBP full field five (5) year background investigation and/or a Secret clearance background investigation.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Activities range from, an office-like environment with extensive sitting demands to a flight line-like
    environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands.
  • May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds.
  • Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • The range of work conditions vary from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to a flight line environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc.
  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
  • May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.
  • Travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety hygiene, management or engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working on CBP aviation programs
  • Completion of OSHA 30 Hour General Industry course
  • Certified LEAN and/or Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Certified Environmental Health Professional
  • OSHA Safety Professional Certifications with direct relevant experience.
  • Professional certifications as Associate Safety Professional (ASP)and Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
