Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, is seeking candidates for a rewarding career opportunity to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. We seek a Utility Shaft Project Manager in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of the Utility Shaft (US) Project to the baseline schedule and cost. Day to day responsibility and management of the US Capital Asset Project, responsible for accurate reporting of project progress on a weekly basis to the Capital and Infrastructure Manager and Monthly to NWP senior management and the DOE Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO). NWP is EVMS certified through DOE and it is the PMs responsibility to ensure compliance with all DOE EVMS requirements. Change control management throughout the Project lifecycle to the minimum extent possible. Manage all subcontracts to minimize scope growth. Ensure Project Function Requirements are met throughout the lifecycle of the project. Assist the CAM in performing those duties. Ensure the schedule is maintained on a weekly basis and that the top 3 critical paths are identified to the Capital and Infrastructure Manager on a weekly basis. Ensure change documents are processed in a timely fashion, both internally and also to the CBFO. All cost deviations are managed through the change process on a monthly basis. Manage the procurement process for each contract within the US Project. Management of all SSCVS Project personnel, both NWP and contracted. Setting NWP employee goals and assisting in career development. Participate regularly in Site meetings and informational update meetings.

This is a high priority project within DOE and also within the NWP parent company, Amentum. This is an excellent opportunity to be managing a high profile, DOE-EM mission critical Capital Asset Project.


NWP Exempt Salary Grade (34-36)


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus ten (10) years’ experience or
  • Associates plus fourteen (14) years’ experience or
  • High School plus eighteen (18) years’ experience is required.
  • Five (5) years experience in managing projects and leading cross-functional teams is mandatory.
  • Must have project experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), DOE 0 413.3B, Critical Decision (CD) and DOE Capital Asset Projects.
  • Knowledge of project management financial controls and systems is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience directing resources within a project organization and project team is desired.
  • Experience with DOE Safety Basis Orders and DOE 0 413.3B is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating/documenting experience managing commercial projects, managing projects in excess of 10 million dollars, and/or DOE or commercial nuclear sites.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
