This position reports to the Director, PD Operational Excellence within the Product Development (PD) organization within Global Product Development & Supply (GPS). This role is responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic, internal, and external communications programs to support the Product Development Senior Vice President (SVP) and organization at Bristol-Myers Squibb. The position requires a seasoned communications professional who demonstrates sound business judgment and can work closely with mid- and senior-level leaders in the organization to help source information and drive effective communications. To be successful, the individual must possess the ability to think strategically, write exceptionally well, remain agile as priorities shift, and execute tactically.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development of overall Product Development communications messaging and strategy
  • Maintain a monthly calendar of internal communications, including drafting messages, coordinating reviews, and distributing messages for review with Product Development SVP
  • Project manage key communications-related internal events (i.e., town halls), including agenda and presentation development, speaker preparation, and logistical support
  • Develop solid relationships with individuals throughout the GPS network and Corporate Affairs to ensure teams’ respective communication strategies are aligned and complimentary
  • Develop & execute an external communications strategy including utilization of the LinkedIn platform as a recruitment tool
  • Manage regional consultants and resources as needed to support the development and execution of communications strategies
  • Work with PD business operations functional leads to drive communications cascade of PD strategy or messaging on initiatives and events
  • Source and write feature stories illustrating progress on Product Development strategy that provide linkage to both GPS and BMS missions/strategies; work with senior managers on specific, functional communications projects that relate to the overall strategy of the organization
  • Support major initiative communications efforts, including but not limited to capital investments, restructuring, reorganization, D&I, content specific events, and change initiatives
  • Develop creative and imaginative communications vehicles to drive employee engagement
  • Assist with content management of Product Development Yammer & SharePoint sites
  • Actively participate in the GPS Communications Council

This role will not have any direct reports; however, this individual will take a lead role with cross-functional teams to create and execute communications programs and will need to be adept at working in a highly-matrixed organization. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate a proven ability to drive strategic communication initiatives aligned with broader company objectives; exhibit creativity, initiative, and the ability to quickly learn the business and operate within a complex, fast-paced and changing environment. Strategic, conceptual thinking and strong interpersonal skills are required.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required (ideally in the field of Communications)
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a corporate communications position or related field is required.
  • The ability to develop communication strategies and actions is required.
  • Experience in internal and external communications in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Experience working in a global function is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment is required.
  • Project management and the ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Experience monitoring and managing site-related issues and crisis management.
  • High degree of independent judgment and decision making is required.
  • Ability to travel domestic & internationally approx. 5% is required.
