What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Manager of Tax IT is responsible for leading a diverse group of systems development, infrastructure, database administration, and security operational support teams along with client relations management across the Tax Organization. This position will oversee and manage the Technology Environment supporting the systems, servers, and the application software and business processes that run on them used by Verizon’s Tax Department. The position would be responsible for leading the development and working closely with the operations support teams towards consolidation and simplification, including driving virtualization, and reducing our overall physical server footprint in the data centers. The position would also support server security and internal/external SOX-related activities.

  • Develop and drive overall strategy to enable the team to provide support and systems availability during business hours for the Tax Platforms.
  • Lead database administration for both in-house developed applications and third-party tax applications (where applicable).
  • Work closely with operations and development teams on job tuning as appropriate. Manage personnel and staff, security access, SOX testing, and backup and recovery.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of technology professionals to foster development and growth.
  • Oversee development projects to maximize delivery of technology solutions.
  • Guide the strategic direction of the Tax systems portfolio to continue advancing the use of technology and digital tools to drive Tax process effectiveness.
  • Manage program lifecycle rhythms, align resources, schedule, and deliverables. Manage expectations, identify and mitigate challenges, highlight risks, escalate project issues, propose creative solution options to technical, track and drive closure for action items and coordinate all aspects of testing (e.g., functional, performance, UAT).
  • Cultivate and maintain effective, highly-collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the business and technical teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Coordinate effective communications within the team and with other groups inside and outside the Tax department.
  • Lead/Participate in program review updates, prepare monthly/quarterly operations review material, and program metrics for senior leadership.
  • Host recurring and ad-hoc meetings to review progress, deliverables, and drive decisions.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to manage user experience, understand and prioritize requirements, conduct training, perform demos, create documentation.
  • Strategic infrastructure roadmap development, capital budgeting, and project management.
  • Manage vendor relations as necessary including SLAs and project deliverables and other process management strategies for designing, managing, and measuring the performance of infrastructure support functions.
  • Track industry trends, stay abreast of technology evolution, and connect with thought leaders and best practices on infrastructure transformation and advancements in the field monitors and Controls production systems and implements operational procedures to maximize systems availability and efficiency.
  • Forecast financial, physical, and human resource needs to meet established objectives managing budgets (capital and expenses) for the acquisition of equipment, maintenance, and services, with a critical eye toward cost management.
  • Assess and manage the overall health of the systems to ensure smooth and trouble-free month, quarter, and year-end close processes.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, a related discipline, or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with a tax organization.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree.
  • Knowledge of any of the following Tax-Related Applications: Onesource, CorpTax, PowerTax.
  • Deep knowledge of infrastructure technologies, data center, server, virtualization, cloud services, firewalls, storage, network, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity
  • A strong understanding of tax compliance processing is a very time-sensitive and critical aspect of Tax Filings and reporting.
  • Ability to effectively apply resources to tasks for the execution of complex and diverse projects.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge with information systems and applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to interface with both technical and business teams and serve as an effective liaison between them.
  • Strong interpersonal skills at every level of the organization including senior management.
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiating skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of in-memory database environments, related issues, and resolution approaches.
  • Experience in navigating processes (e.g., Internal Audit, IT Capital Planning, and Prioritization, Change Management, Procurement of Services).
  • Experience with managing an Information Technology organization.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to speak to a variety of IT technical matters and digital tools such as Alteryx, QLIK, and Automation Anywhere.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse architecture and design.
  • Knowledge of CommVault backup server and utilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and organizational abilities.
  • Proven ability to assemble and direct a highly capable team of technology professionals for maximum productivity.
  • A strong understanding of tax compliance processing.
  • Strong sense of commitment, urgency, and sound business sense.
