When you join Verizon

Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect across the globe. We’re a diverse network of people driven by our shared ambition to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.

What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Design Team shapes brand-defining experiences for a range of consumer-facing products and services. One in three Americans uses Verizon services, so your work will have meaningful impact at a massive scale.

Our team has scaled to over 300 experience designers and content strategists across the US and India. To help us thoughtfully scale and develop capabilities that advance our maturity, we've developed a new Design Operating Model (DOM) that helps us define best practices across areas of People, Practices, Portfolio, and Partners so we can collaborate more effectively and realize greater impact for the business and Verizon customers.

In our first year, we've formed 15+ working teams and completed high value initiatives including: defining a Verizon Design charter, launching CX Design L+D newsletter, socializing company-wide CX principles, and developing VQA process improvements. We're implementing a new approach to our transformation work – partly inspired by The Design Lab – that will allow designers to join a transformation cohort on a full time basis, for a defined period of time, in order to do more focused work.

As a Practice Development lead, you'll fulfill a player/coach role as you both share your own ideas for practice improvement and guide designer-led teams to successful outcomes within our new transformative cohorts. At the conclusion of these efforts, you'll lead the development & implementation of new practices we've developed together.

You'll work under the guidance of senior design leadership and a DOM Lead to guide 1-3 temporary, full-time design teams tasked with establishing best practices that advance our maturity and support a strong culture. You'll be accountable for ensuring teams deliver quality outcomes, responsible for keeping the team informed and inspired across all phases of work, and responsible for defining and facilitating work sharing practices, knowledge management, and education to ensure we put our newly defined processes into practice.

In this role, you'll partner with a Practice Development Co-Lead from our India-based team to ensure an inclusive approach and advise on adoption success factors and resourcing recommendations based on your familiarity with the US team makeup and culture.

This is a newly created role and you’ll have the opportunity to further define this role and your working partnership with your India co-lead to shape effective collaboration practices with senior design leaders, the CX operations team and the VP of Design's Chief of Staff.

  • Lead cohort teams in establishing new practices
  • Define processes for knowledge-sharing and socialization of best practices
  • Project planning
  • Mentor designers in transformation work
  • Project management

Where you'll be working:
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelors' degree or four or more years of relevant equivalent work experience
  • Two plus years experience in related design discipline
  • Experience working with large-scale design or product organizations
  • Experience collaborating with designers and design leaders
  • Event planning experience

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with industry trends and the design and ops thought leadership community
  • Impeccable interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Proven track record effectively managing stakeholders
  • Ability to identify and manage dependencies, milestones and critical path
  • Experience with Google Suite and Slack
  • Outstanding presentation design and Powerpoint/Google Slides skills
