We are seeking a High Voltage Electrician team member for our client site in Groton, CT. The successful candidate will have outstanding electrician skills and will be committed to working with others to deliver best in class, unparalleled excellence in customer service and satisfaction.

  • Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm; hours may vary based on critical business demand.

As the High Voltage Electrician, your daily duties for this role will include:

  • Effectively communicating with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems.
  • Identifying and correcting any safety-related issues and performing independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert in the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical services and components up to 34,500 volts in a pharmaceutical research environment.
  • Supporting operation and maintenance of the site high-voltage electrical distribution system, including operation of substation protective relay systems, troubleshooting outages and faults, preparing feeder switching orders, and planning preventive maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting, assembling, installing, operating, calibrating, dismantling, and repairing all types of electrical equipment.
  • Maintaining and controlling the electrical distribution system to provide a reliable source of electricity to all areas.
  • Serving as the advisor to engineering in material selection, documentation, calibration, testing, problem-solving methodology, project scope, and follow up.
  • Maintaining electrical systems from 120 volt lab equipment, to complex boiler and chiller controls with voltages up to 35,000 volts.
  • Maintaining and controlling site-wide distribution systems.
  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment, switchgear, and distribution systems.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems and equipment.
  • Utilizing test equipment to test motors, control circuits, motor drives, UPS systems, batteries, grounding, isolated power, ground-fault circuits/outlets, voltage, and other load conditions.
  • Inspecting and performing safety tests on lighting/outlet circuits, generators, motors, appliances, tools, etc. Ensuring all circuits are properly protected and systems/equipment are installed and maintained in accordance with the provisions of the NEC and other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinating work with outside contractors.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on industrial electrical control and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Responding and providing service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Recommending measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Understanding company policies and enforcing safety regulations.
  • Performing functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures while utilizing PPE as required.
  • Operating a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Demonstrating flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six years of experience performing electrical maintenance in an industrial, biomedical, or pharmaceutical environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • State of Connecticut E1/E2 License.
  • Ability to obtain site specific security access including all applicable background checks.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and successfully complete a fit test for each type of respirator needed for the position or for an approved alternate respirator that provides equal or better protection from identified hazards.
  • Ability to work overtime when required, including holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to obtain an appropriate driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, as requested.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

Some physical/special requirements include:

  • Regularly lift to 50 lbs
  • Regularly climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding
  • Repetitive motions: bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach, wrist movement
  • Walk extensively throughout the plant during shift
  • Work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions
  • Ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment.

Pfizer Site Requirement:

All employees and contractors working at a Pfizer site must be fully vaccinated against covid-19 by November 15, 2021 unless there is an approved medical or religious exemption. “Fully vaccinated” is defined as receiving the full dose therapy of an EUA approved covid-19 vaccine and being 14 days post the completion of the required dose regimen.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or technical degree.
  • Two years of experience troubleshooting and repairing high voltage facility and/or process systems and equipment.
  • Experience with high voltage up to 34,500 volts.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing components up to 480V 3 Phase.
  • Experience with professional installation of electrical services.
  • Experience with conduit installation.
  • Experience calculating and determining circuit load.
  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of current electrical codes.
  • NFPA-70E Training experience.
