Job Summary:

Akima Support Operations (ASO) is looking for a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic to work in Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. The incumbent maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and installs overhead doors, hangar doors, automated vehicle gates, vehicle final denial barriers, dock levelers and turnstiles. Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspections, assessments, trouble shooting, repair and installation of overhead doors, automated vehicle gates and turnstiles.
  • Trouble shoots and repairs hangar doors and vehicle final denial barriers.
  • Uses TO’s, Air Force manuals, regulations, ANSI Standards, AFOSH Standards 91series, manufactures guidance and blueprints to disassemble, repair, adjust, align, or replace defective parts and components involving the removal of old or damaged parts and machining, boring, welding, realigning, fitting new parts to mechanical devices using precision veneers, gauges, and other calibrating devices. This includes connecting or disconnecting electrical wiring and connections, air hose couplings/fitting’s, high pressure hydraulic lines and fittings, lubricating systems or any other power source prior to operational testing or actual operation.
  • Independently locates, repairs, or replaces defective parts and components through operational testing, if not specified.
  • Uses scaffolding, ladders, and man-lifts, examine and troubleshoots to determine the extent of repairs needed on doors, gates, barriers and turnstiles.
  • Removes and replaces electrical motors, gear boxes, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic rams, hydraulic hoses and fittings, wheels, rollers, tracks, springs, cables, limits, safety devices and other incidentals necessary for the proper operation of overhead doors, hangar doors, automated vehicle gates, vehicle final denial barriers and turnstiles.
  • Adjusts electrical limit switches, sequences for opening and closing, machine keys, main bushings, adjust springs, troubleshoot and repair/replace entrapment device failures.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces ground loops and ground loop detectors.
  • Installs, repairs, or replaces mechanical and electrical components on electrically operated gates. Installs and aligns rolling gates and operators and other repair actions necessary for proper operation.
  • Installs, replaces, and/or repairs foundation rails, rollers and tracks, and machinery or equipment connections.
  • Performs recurring preventive maintenance on equipment, such as: check oil levels, grease fittings, lubricate chains, clean tracks for sliding doors, inspects cables for undue stress and fraying and inspect sprockets on gears for extensive wear.
  • Performs other incidental work operations such as checking and replacing electrical wiring and connections.
  • Strictly adheres to safety, security procedures and regulations to include Akima LLC, AF and OSHA policies and standards. Utilizes safety personal protective equipment and clothing pertaining to work tasks. Includes arc-flash requirements, as applicable.
  • Adheres to proper security and housekeeping practices, Foreign Object Damage procedures and Airfield Driving Regulations, as applicable.
  • Complies with applicable federal, state and AF environmental laws and regulations.
  • Complies with all applicable Akima LLC SOPs.
  • Assist other crafts as necessary.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret technical manuals, shop directives, blueprints, sketches, diagrams, specifications, verbal and written instructions.
  • Documents records of inspections, maintenance and repairs.
  • Identifies and reports safety, environmental and other work requirements to supervisor for resolution.
  • Interfaces with customers and responsible for customer feedback, as applicable.
  • Operates motor vehicles in accordance with company vehicle policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Accountable for: Timely completion of all work, maintaining assigned work schedule, working harmoniously with customers and fellow co-workers, adherence to all safety and environmental requirements, adhere to contract requirements and Akima LLC policies.
  • Contribute to cleanliness and safety of shop and work areas.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • One (1) year experience in troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and installation of commercial overhead doors.
  • Current state driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of valid insurance.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical procedures, hydraulic systems and components of commercial overhead doors.
  • Knowledge of operating characteristics of the involved systems and equipment, and the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods and trade practices.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and work with test equipment and measuring devices, such as micrometers, dial indicators, and volt meters and flow meters.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary licenses/IDs/certifications.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional & courteous manner in diverse situations.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrated working ability read, write, speak and understand English.
  • This position may currently and/or in the future be required to obtain and retain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) and/or Personal Clearance (PCL) as required by law or contract. Position requires pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years’ experience in troubleshooting, repairing, maintenance and installation of commercial overhead doors and automated gates.
  • One (1) year experience in troubleshooting, repairing, maintenance and installation of hangar doors, vehicle final denial barriers, dock levelers and turnstiles.
  • Military experience.
  • Previous experience working on a military installation.
  • Experience working on Tinker facilities.
  • Familiarity with military-specific codes and standards, as applicable.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must be able to hear and speak.
  • The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Lifts exceeding 50 pounds will be accomplished with two-man teams and using appropriate safety equipment to efficiently accomplish the task.
  • The employee must be able to work in confined spaces or at heights of 120 feet (such as in a manlift/boom lift).
  • The employee is occasionally required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings weekends and/or holidays.
