At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Immuno-Oncology and Cellular Therapy Thematic Research Center is one of the fundamental research and early development engines delivering therapeutics to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of immune effector cell-based therapies in hematological and solid cancers. More specifically, we are focused on developing engineered cell-based therapies, as well as biotherapeutics, both aimed at harnessing the power of immune cells to mediate anti-tumor activity. The team integrates discovery research seamlessly with preclinical sciences, translational research and early clinical development in collaboration with colleagues across the Research and Development organization. Our thematic focus allows the group to capitalize on the cutting edge science that underpins the action of many of the company’s most innovative therapeutics, without being constrained by drug modality or disease indication.

The Gene Engineering and Delivery team in the Immuno-Oncology Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual with a dedication to discovery and development of novel cancer immunotherapies. The primary focus of this role will be to design, clone, characterize and produce viral vector constructs that will be the gene delivery tools for developing cancer immunotherapies such as CAR T and eTCR T cell therapies. This position is ideal for the innovative scientist who is passionate about cell therapy in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The key deliverables for this role are: 1) execute on cloning complex viral vector DNA constructs 2) show competency in cell culture, transfection, and transduction of mammalian cell lines and primary T-cells 3) develop novel tools/assays to aide in gene delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and clone viral vector constructs to support the development of CAR T and eTCR cell therapies

  • Culture mammalian cell lines to be used for the production and assessment of viral vectors that are used as gene delivery tools.

  • Set up and run molecular biology and cellular assays to evaluate viral vector

  • Work to develop and improve viral vector production and characterization protocols

  • Work with other team members to develop and evaluate technical feasibility of novel gene delivery methods

  • Process and analyze data, review, and report results

  • Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebook and documentation

  • Summarize and present data in group meetings and in written form

  • Work independently as well as with other team members and cross-functional teams to perform and troubleshoot experiments or assay performance

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.S./B.A. degree in a scientific discipline and 2+ years of experience in relevant field of research

  • Exceptional molecular biology skills; cloning constructs, PCR, RT-PCR, mRNA and DNA prep.

  • Experience with tissue culture techniques including but not limited to transfection of mammalian cell lines and transduction of T-cells

  • Excellent organization, time management and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to independently design and troubleshoot experiments

  • Outstanding written, visual, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to strive in a fast-paced, creative and goal-oriented environment and drive tasks and projects to completion under timelines

Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases.
