What you’ll be doing...

You will work alongside many other teams as we roll out a new enterprise solution involving several components. This position will involve applying initial configurations to Fortinet Firewalls worldwide, as part of the solution. Since this is a new deployment, there will be technical hurdles which you will encounter. Being resourceful and curious will help you become successful. You will be working under an Engineering Team that's part of the Global Network & Technology Group at Verizon.

  • Configure new and existing firewall and firewall management platforms related for Production. Ensure those platforms integrate seamlessly with Verizon monitoring systems.
  • Participate in efforts to supply and interpret security focused designs, solutions, deployment strategies, and technical documentation for Verizon Customer Networks in our various domestic and international Verizon locations.
  • Develop and manage methods of procedures for implementation and provide high tier technical support to the Planning, Maintenance, and Peer Engineering Teams on security, infrastructure, and application related issues.
  • Ensure performance metrics are reviewed to maintain expected service levels.
  • Ensure configuration audit and remediation activities proceed to keep configuration deltas minimized.
  • Develop and test clear and accurate migration path procedures to uplift systems and / or move customer traffic between embedded and directional architectures.
  • Lead technical discussions and track progress/responsibility on projects on the above work, while managing both in-team and cross functional milestones between Engineering and external Application Teams.
  • Participate in test and validation efforts, to ensure the solutions designed perform as expected under load and during failure or attack scenarios.
  • Interface with vendors to develop Verizon specific configurations, bug ID and fixes, code and lifecycle management processes, and feature developed, on Verizon owned security and security management infrastructure.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Advanced routing and switching experience, including full system build starting from power cabling, through Layer 1-7 configurations, up to production deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience setting up and working with highly redundant network concepts, configurations, systems, and topologies.
  • Data and network security experience including firewalls or similar security products and concepts.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of a variety of leading network security vendors, devices and tools (Firewalls, VPN, IDP/IDS, Hacking Methods, Security Protocols, Radius, etc), SNMP, Network Management.
  • Demonstrated mastered verbal communications via articulation of past project details and outcomes.
  • Written communication skills presented via technical documentation and presentations.
  • Demonstrated success & strong ability to lead technical sessions, to lead projects that span multiple organizations, and to coordinate technical implementation and troubleshooting discussions with peers.
  • Strong project management skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Linux config/setup and administration.
  • Advanced scripting / programming languages (Python, Java, C++, Perl, Ansible, Heat, etc.)
