Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, is seeking candidates for a rewarding career opportunity to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. We seek an Industrial Control System Network Engineer, in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, management and operations of secure and highly available applications, computing platforms, servers and storage systems associated with the Central Monitoring System and any related areas as designated by engineering management. The network engineer will be responsible for ensuring maximum network availability and efficiency of the Central Monitoring System (CMS). The CMS is a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system consisting of a mix of functional units communicating on a fault tolerant network, collecting, processing, monitoring and storing site parameters and information from signals provided by fire detection and alarm, process, radiation, environmental, electrical, ventilation and compressed air systems. The candidate will report to the cognizant engineering manager and be accountable to the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for system security policy compliance of the accredited boundary. The successful candidate will maintain the ongoing automation, reliability, performance and support of the infrastructure which includes configuration management, monitoring, responding to incidents, problems and planning for growth.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field, or
  • Associate’s Degree with four (4) years of related experience, or
  • High School Diploma with eight (8) years related experience is required.
  • Expertise in Ethernet and fiber based network topologies is mandatory.
  • Must have knowledge of CISCO switches, including configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborative, adaptable working style, demonstrated initiative and the ability to prioritize time and effort is required.
  • Must have strong interface skills and be able to work in a fast paced environment with minimal direction.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience optimizing industrial control system network performance is preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience of information system support with basic OS administration skills; e.g., Windows, Linux, VMWare is desired.
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of industrial communication protocols; e.g., TCP/IP, ModBus, BACnet, and CIP.
  • Familarization with Kepware, KEPServer. Ignition SCADA, SQL database management, NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 800-82 is preferred.
  • Previous WIPP experience is a plus.
